Question What To Get For Handlebar?

I want a reliable handle bar mount light for my beach cruiser. High output desired so I can actually see where I'm going in unlit areas. Do not have bottle cages so battery will have to be able to attach to frame tube or self contained. Dual levels a plus with approximately at least five hours on low and three on high.

How much do you want to spend?

A Fenix L2D may be what you are after. It is great quality, surprisingly bright, runs off 2xAAs (NIMH preferably), will run 2 hours on max setting and 4 on a slightly lower (general biking) setting, with lower modes available too.
There are other lights that may be just as suitable but the Fenix has been very popular with cyclists for good reason. Link. https://www.fenix-store.com/product_...roducts_id=195 (Link is for the standard P4 version of the L2D and not the more powerful Q5.)

Dealextreme have a few good flashlights that make great bikelights too, my favourite is the Ultrafire C3 5 mode. It does much of what the Fenix does but only costs about $20. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.7938 You should be aware that the quality can vary with these budget lights, so you may be in for a lottery...

There are brighter lights available from Dealextreme too. It depends on how much you want to spend really.

Au Re: What To Get For Handlebar?

I was thinking up to around $200 with more throw than a 2 cell flashlight. Something high quality that can be detached to prevent theft while bike is locked up and I hopefully wont out grow in short order .

Ever used an L2D? Just because it's small doesn't mean it's rubbish. IMO it's got plenty of throw, but if you want more than a 2C taskforce cree will suit. However, I get major tunnel vision when using mine for MTBing.

Just curious, but are you planning to build your own or buy something off the shelf? Also I have found that a seat bag holds my 5C A123 battery OK and protects it from getting banged up. There are also bags made for batteries which will attach to the frame (really I can't see why any bike bag would not work).

This is sorta what I desire; http://www.bikelights.com/Products/arc_liion_ultra.htm
But at it's retail cost is three times the cost of my bike!

2 years ago that would have been state of the art but today it is overpriced and even a cheap P7 light (or two) from DX could do much of what it can.

Nice idea, but I would like at least 3 hours run time .

Hehe, you got me there. You could always carry a couple of spare 18650s with you!
Seriously that light&motion is overpriced and it will be dated within a year or two as better and cheaper LED lights come along.
You still can't go wrong with an L2D or two.

The "Min-T"s should be THE stylish fit for a beach cruiser; certainly bright enough:
