Usually, the +ve goes to the lamp end, the -ve to the tail. There are a few exceptions, such as older models of Wolf Eyes lights, but they are unusual.
If it is an incan bulb, it doesn't really matter either way, but you'll probably see which contact is most suitable for which end.
