Batteries not included.

I am sure I am not alone in taking a perfectly good SF and upgrading it for various reasons.

As much as I don't want to admit it, here's my list:

6PL bought locally in a gun shop because I needed hands on for my first boutique light. $85 + tax. Call it $90.
Malkoff LED upgrade for no reason but GAS. $63 shipped
Z49 TC coz I want a common UI with my E1L. $37 shipped

$190. And this is for my first SF. I am already thinking of a split ring for a lanyard.
I coulda bought a U2 just for a bit more money. :eek: But where's the fun in that? :nana:

Cabela's 6 volt xenon light was $20 with a good knife (basically a 6P knockoff made in the U.S.A.). I put in a R2 dropin which was $20 and added a Uniq variable intensity switch for $35 more. So $55 on a $20 light that included a knife with the cost.

Why not include the batteries? For hotwires, that a considerable portion of the build cost.

Bought an E2e six or seven years ago. Since then...

  • replaced the stock head with a KL1
  • replaced the Z52 with a Z57
  • replaced the KL1 with a KL4
  • replaced the Z57 with a McTC
  • replaced the stock body with an E2o body
  • replaced the McClicky in the McTC with a McE2S
  • replaced the KL4 with a modded KL4 (SSC P4/SDC1000)
All told, probably $350ish in upgrades. Seems like a lot, but it's been my EDC light from the moment I got it.

$140 to build a 10 Cree light. Would have been much, much more had I not done all the labor myself.

$270 to upgrade a MN15 LA. I have a turbo'd 9P and purchased 2 extra MN15 LAs. I read js's article about the X-LOLA for the M6 and had to have one.

For a light itself;

6P $50
P61 $25
A19 $20
P90 $25
P91 $25
KL3 $65
SC1 $15
Lanyard Kit $10
Beam Shaper for KL3 $34
9P body $35
V20 holster $13
V10 holster $13
P60L $30
Turbohead $90
MN15 $20
MN16 LA $30
Beamcover for Turbohead $30
MN60 LA $30
SC2 $13
BOG Cree Premium Drop-in $35
Pelican Case to store extra parts $40

My $50 dollar flashlight ended up costing me over $600!

It all starts so innocently doesn't it?!

Started with a stock C2-HA ($90), added a Malkoff ($63), RPM tailcap w/trits ($75), then swapped body for Leef 1x18650 C-C black body from a friendly CPF'er ($60). So my $90 light ended up costing me $288, not counting battery, and only retains the C2 head as original stock parts.

P4 swap to USWOI - $10
Swap to U2SWOI - $10
Swap to U2SWOH $10
Swap to U2SVOH $10
New clip $14
New Knurled tail $60

I almost feel like a piker here. I was just planning on dropping a hundred or so to pop a KT1 onto my G2. I like the coverage now, but I really got a jones for seeing a nice solid beam shining the whole length of the block! I'll still have my Microstream and Stylus Pro for general use, but I'm really hankering for some decent throw without laying out for a Beast or a Hellfighter. Maybe someday I can go bigger.

Lets start off with the McGizmo PR-T

Pr-T = $40
E2E = $20
Lux III = $15
DB 700 = $25
Total = $100

Upgrades
Lux III = $15
SSC P4 = $10
McGizmo TI 2x123 body = $250
Total = $275

Future upgrades
SOBup = $60
MC-E = $25
Total = $85

The original light has gone from $100 to over $300 in upgrades.

by far the most expensive upgrade was the Ti body but i dont think anything will ever be that expensive again.
