I ordered some AW 18650s (protected) & a Pila charger last month for my newly-purchased 18650 light.

Unfortunately the Pila never got delivered & I didn't take out insurance - typical!! I guess it might still arrive but we're a month on & it was 1st class...

I was thinking of re-ordering the Pila but, with insurance, the cost is getting silly (in UK, so no delivery from flashlightz & exchange rate is poor at the moment) so I took a look at the Maha C777.

The spec sheet says it'll charge li-ion chemistry but will it use the proper charging algorithm or rely on the cell's own protection to terminate the charge?

Yes, I'm pretty sure that charger correctly charges the Li-Ion and does not rely on the protective circuits on the batteries.

Beware though, the charger is rather slow. It uses only 400mA for Li-Ion, consequently it will take up to about 7 hrs to charge your 18650s.
