FAILURE TO PLAN ON YOUR PART DOES NOT CONSTITUTE AN EMERGENCY ON MY PART.
Hehe dream on.They can't even produce R2 in significant quality yet, let along producing R6.
don't they go to the next letter after 5?
I highly doubt it will ever get to the next letter. There will be another model come out first, so unless the continue the same flux bins with a new model...
The R2 is now in high volume release. Here is a thread on it.
I can't find any current cree documentation listing anything higher than R3.
Anyone?
In my opinion, and I could be wrong, I think the recent stagnation is due to Cree preparing to put knowledge from the latest research on the production line. This includes not only the efficiency increases but also hopefully anti-droop technology. Once this is done, they'll probably simply go with another model, although they may keep the same binning system for consistency. In any case, if this is the route they're going then I would expect a fairly nice efficiency bump in the initial offering compared to the XR-E. Not 100% like when the XR-E was released, but 135 to 150 lm/W at 350 mA wouldn't surprise me. And if the new product incorporates anti-droop technology, the increase in output at higher currents may well be close to double that of the best XR-E bins, perhaps in the area of 400+ lumens at 1 amp.
Once upon a time there was this:
Currently here they mention R3 XP-C/E which aren't released yet, but not R4s...
