to the 5 and 9/16" (141.2mm) size work with a 18650 bat or a 3AA>D holder? if so could you shorten the black one from nail benders down to that size? that is the mag he is making me.
For the tubes cut to 5 and 9/16", you have to ask 3rdrock how he uses them - I just cut them like he wanted
The 160mm is the most versatile length as you can use everything: 1D, 4xAA, 4x14670 (with the spring deep in the tailcap), 3xAA, 18650 (with spring deeper in tailcap), etc..
For nailbender's order, all tubes are already cut for the 160mm, so for a future order I can make you a shorter 1xD if you let me know exactly what you want to use it for

Thanks Will they look great.
If you have time or if you have one made up I would like one of your 18650 holders. If you would be so kind as to make it up to fit in an unbored host that way it can actually be used in either.
If you have to change tooling around to do it I can get it on the next run I need to PM you on another small item we talked about before Christmas and your new machine which is not critical.
Thanks
Dave

Actually, I made a host from cardboard to test the different sizes, and if the 160mm is just the host size not including head than the 160mm fits nicely in my hand X3

nailbender, more progress tonight. Your Pewter (Dark Grey) is done!
Here I an boring the inside:
By now, it is bored and threaded, and just finished with the body grooving:
Here I am finning the head with spacing fairly proportional to the grooves in the body, but these grooves are not rounded as you requested:
and then I touched the edges with a file to softly round the sharp edges (the tool I used cuts at a sharp 90deg):
Finished host:
Work done so far for your order:
One more host, and one 18650 adapter to go

ooooh this wave is nearly done, is it too early to place orders for the next batch hehe
Cheers
Justin
I am sure they will be another wave. However after this wave I have pending several projects, including a few of the Barbo Bomb Proof Hosts, and a few custom jobs that forum members have asked me to work on for them, so the expectation should be that I will not start the next wave right away. That being said, this thread is useful for tracking interest on the 1xD's, so it is great to hear what folks would like to have for the next wave.
In the meantime, if there are folks who want something sooner, please contact Brian (Mirage_Man) as he is an excellent machinist and might have time for new projects

Start by having a pic of the intended "target". And I say target since I have no idea of what tool(s) was used to create this one, so I am going to approximate as much as I can and use my own judgement as to what would look "right".
OK, here it goes. Start with a cut black Mag "D" tube...
Cut the area to be threaded:
Thread (sound simple, right?):
I used a spare black tube to experiment with the cutting bit, the depth, spacing, etc., until I found something that looked good and similar to the picture/target:
Here I get ready to cut grooves on the actual 1xD:
here I am done with the first part of the grooving:
I then have to turn the tube around, re-tape, re-align with a prior cut, and start cutting again:
Here I am done with the whole body:
Now getting ready to do the head:
file the sharp edges:
and the complete "special" 1xD black host is ready:
nailbender - I should be able to finish the 18650 holder tomorrow, which would then complete your order
