I've been interested in this headlamp for a while now and have read a couple of reviews:

It seems well designed - the price is very attractive -

But the main objection is that it is not waterproof.

I'm assuming that the use of 3x AAA cells means that the light is direct drive without any intermediate circuitry -

I know this may sound naive -
but if one was to actaully get caught in a good heavy downpour - would such a condition really cause the light to stop working - or even destroy it?

What is the most likely malfunction or damage that the light would sustain from a downpour?

Thanks,

I have a similar non led headlamp made by Rayovac. Cheap thing from walmart. ( about $12 ) It is also not waterproof. I have been in a cave with it, that was VERY damp. And I have been in the rain with it. It has had no problems.

From my experiences, most of the lights out there can handle rain. A heavy downpour is alot less water than being totally underwater. Like being dropped into a puddle. I am betting it will survive the rain, but NOT being dropped in water.

Another thing is time. If you get caught in a quick short time period downpour, thats one thing, but you may not want to stay out all day in it. ( even for heath reasons ) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Most likely damage?::: Hmmm, I would imagine the battery contacts going bad from corrosion. Or, if it has any type of electronic control for the led, such as regulators and the like, they might go bad. The led's themselves should be fine.
