Just knocked this one together

1075 & 15n20 twist damascus
mosaic bolsters
mokume badges on macassar ebony
oal is 8 7/8 "...5" blade
silver pins
for those not aware this type of knife requires much more work than a standard blade
this is because you cannot finish the knife after assembly or the etched parts would be sanded off
therefore you must hand finish each part before assembly and then ensure fit and finish is exact.
then you can assemble it and do some minor polishing

this knife is a sole author knife aswell ... that is I have made all the parts myself ...not bought and assembled the damascus, mokume, bolsters etc...
so it is a true custom made knife

and ONE OF A KIND. :twothumbs
the pics don't do it justice as with any knife pics but enjoy cheers Jason

Thanks very much....
I don't think its talent but a will to learn and strive for a goal thrown in with a lot of patience. my main wish would be to have more money to buy better basic tools ....
like a decent benchgrinder and a quality bench drill and a surface grinder ...and then I see makers with CNC mills and lathes ....:mecry:

You said you wish you had better tools. What tools did you use to make this knife? I have no idea what is involved.

I don't care about knives~~~~~~

Until now, that's a real beauty but can't have 2 Mistresses... ........ can I?

Need to cop out...... log out, I said log out..... now!

That was the unkindest cut of all.

Thanks for the kind words guys
for sale?
I suppose everything is for sale but I only just finished it , there is no sheath yet,I will not have time to make one for at least a month...(busted collarbone)

I don't know what sort of $ ... any comment welcome... what do you think its worth?

my tools are the basic stuff
apart from a power hammer(not mine though :broke:), belt grinder, bench drill and metal bandsaw
all other work is by hand
thats mostly files and sandpaper... the majority of the work
over the last 16 years I've made many knives of all types but as a hobby only,I love damascus and folders,I have just finished hardening a real beauty, a mosaic damascus piece but I wont be able to do much more for at least a month :mecry: I'll post a pic if you ask nicely :)

I would love to buy a surface grinder and a lathe and a good band saw etc etc the list is endless and the space is limited.

heres some more pics

these 3 blades are at various stages and are nowhere near finished
top mosaic damascus in a eye numbing pattern...
lots of folding and manipulation of the billet there
should turn out very nice
centre one I call pineapple head or hotrod flames
bottom is a maidenhair twist...basically a double reverse twist aftermany folds and layers, lots and lots of work to get this sort of pattern

RIMG0462.jpg

the pineapple heads is even more work ....
layers and more layers then 90 deg turn and more folding etc.
then twist, cut the bar down the centre and re-weld...
then twist again and hammer to shape.... thats like 30 hours with 2 people

worth the effort though my favourite

RIMG0464.jpg

close-up.......

RIMG0469.jpg

the pattern flows with the shape of the blade
this is because it is forged to shape ...giving ultimate strength, like a forged crank on a big hp V8.

another close-up

RIMG0470.jpg

remember these are not finished yet .... heres what one finished looks like .... all shiney .... preciousssss heh heh (gollum)
fwiw sold for USD$550

and finally a picture of what forge-welding is, thats getting the layers to weld together under the hammer.sorry about the size
looks good hey?

Very nice work! Are they generally easy to sharpen? I like using Damascus as it is always beautiful and not another one like it in the world!

cheers Kremer
the pineapple pattern turned out real pretty...
we wrote down the process from start to finish
all the folds and twists etc....
but every attempt turns out differently
thats the beauty of damascus... nothing will be the same when you are doing hand forged damascus.

hey thanks for the compliment
very nice of you to say ...
as I get more experienced I try to learn and progress each time ...much like anybody

something I've picked up is that you have to train your eyes too really see what you're looking at ...
I saw a program on TV about artists ,who really look at what they paint/draw
they spent much more time looking and judging their work as they went
