I have a question for you though. I'm in the final stages of developing some big improvements to regulation. Do you want these shipped with the standard firmware or wait a few days and get the completed rev 2 firmware?

You might look into the 4000 mAh 26650s from battery space. Same length, more capacity.

You might want to be carefull with that 19.5V. I did some test runs with a new 64458 today at 19.5V. It didn't last too long.

Regarding the 64458 - can I change to max 18.5v max please. I'm used to 17.2v , so 18.5v will be good. I can go higher later if I want. Thanks for the warning.
Regarding battery choice - shipping to Australia can make cell choice very expensive and availability here is limited. I just ordered 7 x IMR26500 from AW - $8 registered ship So my 6D can become a 5D with 50% more capacity and less sag so I'm happy.
Same reason for the Sony cells - Makita drill packs with 10 cells were available $100 AUS. Emoli pack was about $40/cell for 26mm size!

For the new compile time options, I can program these options before shipping if the buyer wants:

Ordering options:
Softstart Speed: Fast, Med, or Slow
Low voltage warning mode: Pulsing or dimming
Low voltage shutdown type: Timed (how many seconds) or undervolt (87% or 94%), or Both.
Over temperature trigger temperature, 50, 60, 70, or 80C
Over temperature shutdown enabled? If so how many seconds?
Response to condition time: 1/8, 1/4, or 1/2 second.

Examples:
Softstart: Med
Low Volt Warning: Pulsing
Low volt shutdown: Both. Timed:30 seconds, Undervolt: 87%
Over Temp trigger: 60C
Over Temp Shutdown: Yes, 10 seconds:
Response: 1/8 second

The AVR has an onboard temperature sensor (thermistor) that can be read using an internal ADC channel. You simply read the ADC to get the value. That value equates to a temperature. If there are X number of consecutive readings above or below a certain number it activates the high temperature mode. Right now there is only one high temperature mode, dimming (to 35% of Vbulb), with an optional shutdown Y seconds later.

Just a note though. a 5761 won't last long on 7.4V. If you do want to push the 5761 that hard, might I suggest the slow start for that one.

I was basing my numbers on LuxLuthor's fine thread http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/...d.php?t=179748 specifically http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h7...bulbs/5761.jpg. But I took what you said to heart and searched thru all the post on CPF I could find on the subject and I see what you mean. Seems that some "batches" of 5761 are different than others. So I am open to a lower set voltage. What would you suggest 7.0, 7.1 or 7.2? I am also wondering how long the slow start is in the latest programing? The nice thing about your product is that if I do blow a lamp I can always dial it down a bit. I was looking for atleast an 8 hour lamp life.

As a side note I have 6 of these lamps. 5 new and 1 installed in one of my favorite mods which is a 2D Mag 5671 MOP reflector with a 300mm FL aspherical lens powered by 2 x A123. I would estimate I have 20+ hours on this mod and the 5671 lamp is still going strong.

It has been said before but let me reiterate, thanks for making this product available. I missed out on getting AWR's hot drivers and your product is like a 2nd chance.

You should be good with 7.1 to 7.2V on that bulb for 8 hours. With a DMM, it's easy to adjust Jimmy's PhD with a small blade screwdriver.

As a person owning a good number of AWR's hotdriver, they work just fine in simple, low current setups with battery pack closely matched to set output voltage.

The PhD versions worked out by AlanB, Jimmy, wquiles and others is far superior in features, durability, performance, adjustability, and being an open source project that anyone can tinker with.

A123s are only 3.3V nominal. So 2 x A123s will not reach 7.2V for very long. Their charging finish voltage is only 3.6V each. It's no wonder you're getting a lot of life out of your 5761. You're running it on only 6.6V

Correct. I find the color of the beam on par with my 9 x AA NiMH Mag85s. The A123 cells do not sag at 6.6v@5.3 amps, just a nice steady constant beam. The build I described in the earlier post is my most guilt free lumen incandescent.
