I own a couple of the newer M2 bezels but I forgot how big they were (they are both put away out of every day view).

That is another good option for the 26500 bodies. They look more at home on them compared to a smaller 6P head plus they have a lot more material mass for cooling.

At least with LED towers running in KT1/2 non-shock THs vs a Kt4 shock-resistant TH, the KT4 showed much poorer heat sinking capability. If the M2 bezel is also a shock head, I suspect that it might also not have as good heat sinking capability vs a standard Z44.

I'll take a look on Dave's (Nailbender) sale threads re the finned head. I like the idea of a finned head and like the look of the setup as per his post a couple of posts back although that head's (I'm guessing it's FM?) a bit larger than I'm looking for. In addition to looking like it cost a fortune!

I like the new M2 head but would there be some light loss from the deep-setting of the dropin in the bezel? Vignetting I mean... Modoo's triple R2 drop-in in there seems ok perhaps because of the lenses and peripheral arrangement of the emitters, but a P7 in the centre...

Maybe that doesn't matter too much overall...

The head that Dave/ Nailbender has is FM's new turbo head for the C/ P series lights. They are nice but I'm not sure how well they work with a LED. There are a couple review threads about FM's turbo head.

I took the following measurements using one of Dave's MCE drop-ins.

The first is using a SF C/ P series bezel with the end of the light being 25.5in from the wall.

The outer ring measured 25in.

The second is using a SF M2 bezel with the end of the light being 25.5in from the wall.

The outer ring measured 19.5in.

The M2 bezel does cut out a lot of side spill with the more floody drop-ins.

The drop-in sits 15mm further away from the lense in a M2 head.

I prefer the look of the old M2 finned head over any of the Surefire C/ P series bezels.

Here is an indirect size comparison between an SF 6P with the FM Deep Turbo C Head vs an FM 1x26500 with a G&P SF clone bezel.



Unfortunately, I've found the benefits to the FM Deep Turbo C Head to be hit or miss (mostly miss so far). It doesn't fit any of my SF R30, R60, P60, and P61 LAs. I filed down a P60 and an P61 to fit the FM head. The 1 meter hot spot measurement was excellent because the head focuses the filament to a fine dot. But at distances greater than about 5 feet, the focus is suboptimum and there is a donut hole in the beam. The beam quality also degrades.

I tried 4 different P60 LED drop-ins, and got mixed results. All of the LED drop-ins fit flush, so at least that was encouraging. But I got no increase in hot spot lux (throw) for a DX6090 and a recent vintage DX11836 (purchased earlier this year). I got about 5% increase for an OpticsHQ drop-in, but the beam quality degraded significantly (noticeable ringiness).

Interestingly, I also tried an older version of the DX11836 (about a year old) and got a fairly big increase (about 30%) in 1 meter hot spot lux than with the newer DX11836 mentioned in the previous paragraph. But again, the beam quality dropped significantly (very ringy beam pattern).
