Default Who would be interested in a Maratac AAA with a rear clicky?

Who would be interested in one if it was a little bigger? Same features & everything, but with the addition of a rear clicky?

If you vote no, post up why.

For what it's worth, I believe it can be put on a Microstream body, that's if you can get the 'Stream's head off without messing the body up (I did just that).

it can be, but it doesnt engage the o ring, meaning not water resistant, and its then so big that it defeats the purpose of such a small light

I see it more of a Microstream upgrade than a Maratac upgrade and in that case, it becomes smaller

Yes, as long as the extra length was minimized, it is a forward clicky, and the overall light was still *cheep*

I don't know. I already have a couple of Fenix-Streams and I like the Maratac for it's small size. So for me, I guess not.

That's what I'm aiming for. The fenixstreams don't have matching anno, and the smooth reflector on mine is soso.
The Maratac aaa has the XP-E + OP relflector. I'm sure the clicky shouldn't be more than a $10 addition, so maybe $35 at most? Even then, the only other light with similar features is the Liteflux LF2XT and that's $65-70 bucks..

A clicky like the one found on the coast micro tac would be great. I would by a few of these with a small forward clicky.

Twisty lights are boring, clicky lights are more convenient, and who doesn't like ultra portable clicky lights? AAA Twisties are played out... And aside from the LF2XT, I cannot recall another AAA Clicky... that and the future 4SEVEN'S AAA flashlight.

The Maratac AAA's main advantage is it's small size which make it an ideal keychain replacement for the Fauxton. A clicky will add 1/4" to the length.
The extra length would not be a problem if you use the clip in your shirt pocket or vertically in pants pocket.

Clickie is a plus, but its small size should be of priority.

Although if it turns out to be the same length (or less) compared to a LD01, I don't mind it.

    Why do I say no?

Because I want it in AA first, then we can talk about switches.

I prefer the twisty. I don’t want the light any larger and it turns on in the hold I prefer for most tasks.

without. that's not to say they shouldn't make it for those who want it. i just prefer myself without.

a AAA flashlight will be a backup light always for me. for a backup i want it.
    1)shortest, lightest possible
    2)reliable as possible

every mm counts and a clickie would introduce more variables for failure. plus, a twisty would be more water resistant with less intrusion areas.

I voted no because I always end up putting the light in my mouth to free up both hands. I hate drooling into the switches . I like clickies on bigger lights. It's also makes it more impressive being so small and so bright!

The steamlight stylis is a pretty popular single AAA clicky, but I prefer the clicky on the stylis Pro.

The Lumapower Avenger Gx is a multi-mode forward clicky AAA light as well.

It's a bit bigger than the other options.
I like the Maratac the way it is. A tiny twisty. I just wish they were available in neutral tint.

I wouldn't buy one. It would bump the size up beyond a pocket EDC. At that size I prefer the 1AA format for its ~3x run time capacity.

How about a hybrid UI? clicky to turn on/off and twisty to control brightness. Wouldn't that be nice?

It's never going to happen. If you knew Maratac as a company, they just don't roll that way. This light was a government contract with an NSN. ITP might do it but the light would have to be noticeably longer and the light's cost would increase. The switch also allows another entrance for water.

Maratac is not a flashlight company, they are a small group of private individuals with certain goals.

I like the original design, including the size, it's simplification and low cost. Clickys add complication and a higher rate of failure, so for this particular light I voted no.

    Maratac has a history?
I thought its just some new sh!t hole company from China here for a flash in the pan like how Regalight was.

How did the Maratc AAA and iTP's EOS turn out to be 99% the same?

But whatever, I trust iTP more anyway.

MARATAC is a very small group of Americans. They have high quality products produced for both government and "high speed" individuals. They have their flashlights made to spec by ITP. They also have a great line of watch straps and military type nylon web gear. Their stuff is high quality.

The key factor is size. It's the entire point of a AAA flashlight IMO.

Many laser pointers have very small side buttons. Would it be possible to build a AAA with a side button (not a real clicky) that wouldn't add as significantly to the size?
