Hi all!

With the delivery of my 18mm bored Solarforce L2M a new plan started formulating…
Why run primaries when there is space left to be used. So I ordered some Ultrafire 18350 unprotected rechargeables from KD. Then I had 2 off them and could not resist trying them with a high output Xenon.

So I run a comparison runtime test with two AW 17500s also….Both batts are rated in 1100mAh BTW…

Data is:
- Solarforce L2M with extenders to match
- Chinese Xenon 7.4V 15W Bulb
- My Lightbox and my DX meter

Here is the graph:
uf18350aw17500runtimes.jpg

Notes:
- Jumps on the AW runtime were created when I shook the flashlight while facing down…Maybe we need a more affirmative bulb contact setup?
- I stopped the Ultrafire measurements at 34 lux, then I measured the batt voltage. 3.28 and 3.17…
- in the AW case the cell protection cut-off but cell voltage was 3.5 and 3.18! these were also matched in a Ho-9 setup form the start….
- Previous measurements of known combinations were inserted in the graph for good reference…

Now can anyone be helpful in making an estimation of both batts real capacity?

Thank-you for testing these. I've had the same thoughts and wondered how they'd perform.
Please confirm, for your test it was 2x for each cell combination, yes? two AW 17500's, two KD 18350's?
Thanx. I realise they look like they're underperforming for rated capacity, but I'd say they're competition for 16340's, not 17500's.

Would you do a run of:
2x 18350
vs
2x16340

well the bulb being 7.4Volt says it all...
BTW draw with both was 1.5A

if you are refering specificaly to the ultrafire...yes indeed on all counts

Would you do a run of:
2x 18350

I do not know...the draw is too much for 16340s...I have measured peak draw and output with some
AW 16340 protected were 1.36A and 525 lux
Trustfire unprotected were 1.50A and ??? cannot remember

So even with-out the shootout, I can infer from your previous data that the UF 18350 delivers a higher amperage than then 16xxx form factor. Not to say I want to push discharge rates, knowing this boundary means my application will be safely inside it.

Its a nice option for tubes that already accept 18650's. I can think of a few boards / drop-ins that run brighter with 2s, and it'd be nice to get away from the run-time drop that comes with using 16340's.

indeed ....

these were precisely the reasons I bought them...and being marginal but cheap they are good enough to run the MC-E dropins
