using the round 7 up xpg / xpe leds on a 39 mm dia board from Cutters and Khatod 6 degree optic .

    nice,.....

    Very good job,....

How hard do you drive LED's and what is your input voltage of the batteries? And of course what is the weight of this beauty?

Thanks I have run it up to maxflex 1200 ma but could see no light difference over 1000 ma but a fair bit more heat .

running from a 4s li ion pack but it does need a larger AH setup if using max power for long .

weight this one weighed in at 145 grammes on my kitchen scales not inc the strap and has set off to Finland for some Dogsled racing

    thank arcel1t
yes the intention is to have some cases or built up ones for sale be around christmas when the cases are ready

Did you put any glass over this Khatod lens?

Yeeeeeeee, Lupine strap looking good and strong.

Not glass some lexan went over the optic , I did not wat to have to try and clean mud from the tiny holes in the optics .

Trout you're killing me with all these awesome lights you keep making. Whats the output like at say 600ma? If you need an 8 18650 battery pack for decent runtimes is it not more efficient to use a bflex? Suppose its users choice.

    Great work!!...again

But I heard that 'lego' is not happy with the look of the face in the light!!

    Wow!

Wondered what setup you used for the 7-Up beamshots used in answer to the question about the MaxFlex and the 7-Up. Now I know.

Curious about what it would look like dialed down some to lower amps in those nice mode menus you provided. Could it be used with a little careful aiming at lower power to get to the trail without blinding every oncoming motorist and melting the tarmac?

Oh, and did I say wow?

Got battery, need light. Now to ask Santa for this nifty Christmas present.

    Thanks Guys
Full power is probably overkill But fun to annoy the Lupine owners with.

so here are the 5 maxflex settings I guess level 1 would be commute mode

You can find trouties contact details on his website..
    http://www.troutie.com/mainpage.html

Troutie what are the options of a different optic being used in this light? this is with the idea of having say 5 leds instead of 7, I'm just trying to be a bit conservative towards battery life on max..

    Cheers

Oh and i like the gold one, hopefully it will match the Hope Pro 2 gold hubs I'm eyeing up at the moment..

Very nice looking housing! Just to be sure, there´s a pretty similar IP65 button which has a place for the status led, so no need to drill an extra hole. It might even be the exact same button you are using now, at least looks like it. It costs 1€ more. http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...name=EG4574-ND

    ->Goldigger
Just run the light on lower power with 7 leds. You get better efficiency from the leds, which means you get the same light output for a little longer than with 5 leds at full power and you still have a "turbo" if needed

    Ooo Re: 7 UP

These would probably be good off-road lights, if you were interested in changing the driver to one that could handle the 12-15 volt input range, and voltage spikes.

These are beautiful! Wonderful anodizing and machine work! I think the people who purchase them will be very happy!
I love my HDS/Ra Clicky... My only wish would be a 5th(accessible thru a 2click press) mode, and a 2AA tube.

Iguess if it fits in it will work I did think about 5 with the polymer optics 6 degree in there

but thens as trbdck says lust turn it to a lower level .

Thanks John my brother does custom bikes and said the same .

Do you have a driver in mind that would fit the bill and handle the dirty voltages

I guess it would not need the Flex type control features just on and off

Do you have any pictures of the 7up board and optic? Cutter's pictures are so small, it's hard to see any detail.

Its been a long time since this took shape now it has morphed into a real nice throwing XPG which I am going to use on the helmet .
I managed to slot in 7 of the 12 MM asphericals from the Surplus Shed very slighty defocused to keep a bit of spill .

it will easily go out past 200 metres more than enough for the riding I do .
a couple of beam shots the farthest tree is 175 mtrs away

and the spooky barn is 150 metres

I think using a combination of these aspherics (nice beam pattern, BTW), and the regular optics would work great! The aspherics will provide more long-distance illumination , and the optics will provide some local flood.

I agree. I tested these aspherics but went with another that is a bit tighter for a narrower road high beam in a double light triple XP-G system with 3 Carclo 10417's in one light on the bar and the 3 aspherics in the other on the helmet. It is in the road beam thread.

So, yeah it works great. Trouties' will be better for a trail where you want a bit wider thrower. I have to cut back the 10417 light's power a bit as it is a bit too floody at 1 A for the road, but nice at 0.5 A. It would be great foreground spill on the trail on full power. But you may only need two of them, three at most, the rest aspheric.

Too bad I need new wheels more, or I'd have me one of these! Great job, as always, troutie!

    Hi Karl
Yes it is a mod you could do with one of yours
I needed to machine some 13 mm dia holders for the tiny lenses from some 15 mm polycarbonate tube the internal dia was 11 mm so a .5 mm step to hold the aspheric

the only problem is the lexan cover needs a 1 mm spacer making for my set up , but I am not sure if the lenses can go closer to the leds to focus the beam even more . I dont want to experiment more and screw it up as it makes a great helmet light as it is .

Good thinking John_Galt I have 3 aspherics left well I know where 2 are and one is somewhere in the debris field of my workshop .
might give that a try in another light .

BrianMc what are these other tighter aspherics you mention do you have a linky for them

Surplusshed L10140. Nominally 12 mm and 8 mm focal length, and PCX. The 10140 is 12.7 mm to a concentric flange or lip on one side smoothly contoured on the other to the 16 mm diameter. It isn't planar but bi-convex. Only the FL is a good descriptor. It doesn't have its own page. (surplushed.com and use lens finding tool off top left button, on menu, and search for 12 mm to 12 mm lenses of all types with 8 mm to 8 mm focal length.)

    http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/...=214561&page=7

Posts 186 & 187 had the wrong lens number. Fixed now. Didn't realize I had that wrong.

The L10017 (which appears to be the lens you have, 12 mm 6 mm FL PCX) gave an XPG die size of 11+ degrees with the edge fuzzied by some reflected light not absorbed by the mounting tube. I got 9.5-10 degrees with the L10140 at the focal point, same fuzzy edge from light not absorbed by the tube. Dedoming the XP-G gave me an 8 degree beam.

The size made me buy the L10017 to compare. The apex of the L10017 at tightest image was 13.5 mm from the die, 12 mm from the LED dome.

The 10140 is 16 mm diameter. So I ground away most of the flange on three sides to fit three of them in an MR 11 housing. You could grind it down to a 12.7 mm diameter. At the FL, the apex was 13 mm above the die, or 11.5 mm from the dome so you may not have enough room (width or depth) for it in the NotSquare-Not Round 7-Up case for 7 of them but for 4 or 5 and Carclo 10417's for the rest, maybe.

Hope this helps. Lord knows I owe you for insight from your beamshots alone.

Mr Trout, how much are these and how would I power them on my DRZ 400s?

I looked at your site but only found the flat looking light and I like this look much better.

    Thanks

Have you thought of using a reflector assembly or something of that type?

I have always wondered why anyone doesn't make adustable lights, ie a zoomable focus type of lens.
