I'd be interested. For 150 AUD? That's really cheap for something with that kind of output. I've just laid out £70 on Niteriders new 400 lumen minewt lamps. They light up the roads and trails really well. Don't think I've seen anything over 1500 lumen.
Pototypes are in the mail (got delayed slightly) and will be delivered to me on the 17th

Bump, protos have arrived. see post number one for photos and more details (PRICE REDUCED!)
Why not use a boost driver? Maybe you could run 3s2p with this driver http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.26106 and modify the sense resistor as shown here:
http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/...8&postcount=46
With one you could push at least 550ma to each XPG (possibly more with a more aggressive reduction in the sense resistor), and also use a lower voltage supply in 5-7v range. Or you could run two of them in parallel and have two independent 3s configs at >1a per die. Could power with 5 or 6 Nimh D's. Or for simplicity a bunch of parallel Magcharger Nimh sticks.
or stick with name brand HQ driver and use one hyperboost ($40 vs. $4 for DX driver)
still a newb, just noodling. sorry if i'm clogging up your thread. free bump!

PP sent for one... sorry to see that uptake has been so slow since it looks like a REALLY nice design. As you know, my own interest is in hosting a DIY-programmed controller, but I think most users basically want finished lights.
I'm in, I'll gladly send you $50 + shipping for the host you've created.
Please reserve one unit for me. It looks great, I'd be happy to see what I can turn it into.
(I'm thinking dual external switches, one side direct drive 3x XPG, 2 side multi-mode. But we'll see.)

Just a quick update, These will ship out tomorrow (Friday as promised, Australia time), I just have to finish tapping the rear hole (M12x1.5) for the cable glands (if you don't want this done, PM ME ASAP). Sorry for the bad IPhone photo, but I needed a family photo
Also to anyone that hasn't already done so and wants to upgrade their shipping to "Registered" (I cant be responsible for loss of items on regular air mail) please do so ASAP by paypal and PM.

wow these look SICK!
ill keep an eye on this for the kit option.
nice work!
All sent today!
Just a few things I found when assembling a unit....
Some of the edges could be sharp, check for burrs.
Use locktight on the M2 screws!
And if using the Bflex be careful with excess solder on the outer pad's as these may short on the case
Otherwise enjoy your prototype units and please provide as much feedback as you can!
keep me posted, send PM.
like to get some.
Got mine today (not sure when it actually arrived since I only pick up the mail once a week or so). Very nice work. There were a few loose metal shavings from the machining, no big deal. The housing feels nice and solid and it's cool how the cable compression gizmo works (I'd never seen one of those before, at least up close). Now to acquire some leds and optics for it...
Subscribed and waiting to hear about new run......
Need to get a bike light built in time for springtime Michigan riding!
Thank-you thank-you thank-you.
Fyi - arrived and in great shape. Yeah loose metal pieces abound, they give it a very authentic apperance
Great piece Matt, really.
Thank-you

The loose pieces are from when I was tapping the rear hole for the cable gland, sorry about that... Although I did include two extra screws with each housing stuck inside with sticky tape![]()
