I tried an experiment with an Arc AAA. I thought I'd try something to smooth the blue artifacts in the beam, so I put a dollop of glow paint (glow powder mixed in clear nail polish) right on the LED.
The result is the beam is much smoother and a very uniform white. The paint forms a translucent layer that scatters the beam, and because it glows green might even help out the tint. And it makes the head glow strongly after the light is turned off, which is pretty cool.
The beam does seem to be dimmer, however. I have a brand new Arc AAA to compare it to, and I can't make up my mind how much of the difference is due to the beam spreading out more, and how much is blocked light and/or this older Arc AAA having a slightly dimmer LED to begin with.
