Thread: Catalog of Discontinued Surefire Flashlights

  1. #1

Default Catalog of Discontinued Surefire Flashlights

Lets build a catalog showing each model flashlight that SF used to build but no longer does. I'll start off with a few, but suggestions (and links) are most welcome. For the purposes of this list, entries are limited to models of flashlights. This should compliment the excellent rare/unusual thread and not list special colors or commemorative versions based on an existing model of light. I'll try and add photos when possible.

Note that SureFire.com is not a thorough indication of SureFire no longer offering the product. It would be great to get word directly from SureFire else label it has "presumed" or something.

The M98 Series is not the same as the Leopard-light (which may not have been discontinued BTW). There was never an "M98X" (if "X" is meant as generic then it should be "x")

The 12P/12Z are the very early name for the 12PM/12ZM - NOT versions without the TurboHead.

The L5 has been replaced by the "L5A", although this is a CPF term, it's more accurate to say the KL5 has been replaced by the KL5A.

One would need to check whether the same is 'true' for the KL4 - replaced by the KL4A or whether it was an inline change like the U2 (to U2A)

Have the BatonLights actually been discontinued?

The E2o Outdoorsman has been discontinued.

    KL1, KL2, KL4, KL5, KL6, KL7 bezels have been discontinued I believe.
Not sure about the KL3 though.

The X200A and X200B have been replaced by the X300.

BTW, the Hurricane Case was model 12B

The KX3 has replaced the KL3 as far as I can tell, as the KL3's have been slowly dissappearing on several websites, showing out-of stock or discontinued/no longer available, especially the colored ones.

Correct, Al...according to SF the Leopard Light is a mounted M4 with a tape switch (so it can pull double duty as weapon mounted/hand-held), as opposed to the M98X series with the integrated mounts, which have been discontinued according to several of SF's biggest on-line dealers, and no longer appears in the listing at the back of there catalogs. They (accidentally???) mis-id'ed the leopard light in there 2005 tactical catalog, as they picture an M98X, but describe it on there website in there low-light sniping article as the M4 w/ tape switch and scope rings. Or maybe the Leopard Light (in 2005) was an M98X with scope rings and was later replaced with the M4 when the M98X's were discontinued???

There is no such thing as "M98X", if neccessary, which it isn't, it should be M98x.
The Leopard Lights are essentially special order and in some cases where there is Picatinny Rail on top of the Scope/Scope mount then it is possible for the Leopard to be based on the M98. The main difference is that it'll have a longer remote switch than the standard XM07 7" remote.

The original Leopard uses a different body to the 12PM - it has cooling thins and has no need for the TurboHead adapter collar. It was Lamp Module L120M if memory serves.
They then moved to the M4 with remote.

Like with the M500 Series, the 'big guns' models "B" and M98 have been removed from the listing but can still be created using the various Lamp Modules and Module Kits etc.

E20 should actually be E2O Outdoorsman.

Haven't heard about the 6PN in years, probably discontinued.

I believe the Z3 is discontinued.

Are we counting L4 and U2? They have been replaced by variants, L4A and U2A.

Ahhh...the Z3...nice catch, Carrot. Yeah, I put the 0 in instead of an O...it was getting late last night. It came stock with the MN02 for the longer runtime, hence the tag "Outdoorsman" as opposed to the "tactical", higher out-put E2E, but became "obsolete" when the E2L came out...

I think they're different. They're not replacements, as such. The L4 is still the L4 and the U2 is still the U2 (as per the website), even though they might be called otherwise on CPF.

The U2A is simply an inline update of the U2 with a newer emitter. This isn't a new practice.

More questionable is the "L4A". The model remains the same - it's simply the "KL4A" head that has changed. The same is true for the KL5A - the model remains the L5 even though the head has changed.

I would imagine that the 6PN is still available, as it's not a different model as such, but rather an existing one that has been tested in a certain way.

As with the "L4A" and U2A, I don't think this qualifies as a discontinued model, as the model itself (A2) still exists. Everything else about the light remains the same - only a fairly minor cosmetic change was made.

A more interesting question, I think, is that of why certain models were discontinued. Of course, a lot of the answer will boil down to decreasing demand, new technologies and redundancies emerging in the product range.

The 3P, for example, didn't offer much in comparison the the E1 and later E1e. Bigger size, unimpressive output...I'm not surprised it disappeared. It also didn't have the flexibility that may have allowed the 6P to remain despite the emergence of the Executive series.

My parts list shows U2-BK-WH (DIGITAL F/L, 5W WH LED, BLACK) as being available, so this is an improved version of the same model, not a new model.

The C2 used to come with 2 flats and third rounded side. It was and still is a C2.

For the purposes of this thread, the test is:

    1) was it in production such that you could buy it and it had a model number for doing so?
    2) was any change significant enough that SF gave it a new model number?
    3) is the new model number now available and the old model number, not?

Its always been an obscure model, but it does show on my 2010 list:

6PN-BK (FL, BLACK ANO, MOMNTRY TLCP SW, 6V, 1.25 BEZ, 30M SUBMERSIBLE)

In factory configuration, it offers no advantage. With P60 module capability, its value in the upgrade market has soared.

Is the 6PS or indeed the 6PSN on your list?

    What about the Shield Lights?

  15. #15

Shield Lights = nothing with the word shield apart from (HELLFIGHTER SHIELD BARREL MOUNT)

    6PS = no
    6PSN = no

Shock 6P eh, I would love to see that!

But just to be clear, my list is not the end of the line. Z17 lens kits, for example, are not on the list either and I am able to order them.

The 6PS is simply a 6P body and TailCap with old-school Z32 shock isolated bezel

SureFire Shield Lights models 6S25, 8S, and 9S25

If you're wanting to gather all the models there are BatonLights 3BL1, 3BL2, 6BL1 and 6BL2 as well.

The 8X and 9N rechargeables have been discontinued.

    The 6PT, 6RT, 9PT, 8XT & 9NT Extended Range TurboHead models (and their associated TurboHead Kits T1, T2, T3, T4 & T5) have been discontinued.

Another set of discontinued SureFires are the P-Series Nitrolon, W-Series Military and M-Series Millennium Handgun WeaponLights.

The M500 Series "B" models have been discontinued.

Do you have any photos of this model please? I don't recall ever having heard of it
I always though it was internet confusion (tpyo) due to there being the 8X, 8AX & 8NX.
I've seen people refer to their 8NX as '8N'...

Because there have been a few versions of the 'standard' bezel before the familiar current version with it's hexagonal anti-roll feature, I don't feel the difference is significant enough to count older versions of the 6P (for example) as discontinued because they aren't distinct models.

Fair enough. Trying to figure out what Dan's looking for pictures of. I have a black 3P and an original "gunmetal" 6P (much lighter than current ano) but IIRC both have the vertical grip cuts. I think my 6Z originally had a perfectly smooth bezel. These are all from the '90s, well before the hex bezel with Pyrex window.

The 1996 catalog features plenty of them!

All of my Laser Products 3P, 6P and 9P lights have those "vertical cuts", but none of my 6Zs or 7Zs do - they're all smooth.

Wow, OP updated! Also great would be the date range a given model was available (ie, 1994-2002)

Yup, models by family, date range, plus example photos of each

If you have a good color image of any of these models in the standard color, please post or PM me a link.

For easy comparisons, I would like roughly the following sizes:

    600 pixels wide - 1 cell (3P, etc)
    700 pixels wide - 2 cell (6P, etc)
    800 pixels wide - 3 cell (9P, etc)

    example 2 cell

    example 3 cell

I have a scanner (and maybe a camera) but no catalog. Perhaps we can do one volunteer at a time.

That matches what I've seen. P's have bezel grip, Z's do not.
