Use the search function. Or be a little more specific about your needs. How durable do you need it to be? Does it need to throw? What have you looked at so far?

How about the Eagletac P20C MKII rated at 380 lumens or 300 OTF? It has the XP-G R5 led, but is slightly higher in price than the $50 listed as the target. It is coming in at $68.90. I don't have it (yet), but it still is amazing to me. It runs on 2 CR123A or 2 RCR 123 or, I understand, 1 18650 li-ion battery.

Edit: I'm wrong about the 18650 battery. Only the T20C MKII takes that--and it is longer and more expensive, but throws somewhat more, I'm told

Good suggestion they are great lights at a good price with nice accessories (lanyard, holster, diffuser, clip,).

I don't think you are going to get 300 lumens out of 2 or 3 AA Alkalines, I tried it just doesn't happen. It does with NiMH AA cells and an MC-E or P7 direct drive with 3 Tenergy AA's and a Javelin AA hosts with P60 drop-ins of 10watts or so.

Now when you say 350 lumens to many of us that means 250 Out the front lumens...So, do you mean 350 actual lumens our eyes will see?

Your best bet is the EagleTac XP-G as it does 330 Out the front real lumens off 2 cr123 or 1 AW 17670 cell:thumbsup:

Re: 300+ lumen on 3 AA cells

3xAA Dereelight Javelin
3xAA nickel-zinc cells (1.6V under a 1.5A load)
any of several P60 drop-ins:
- Thrunite's 1.5A XPG-R5 (under Dealers), claiming 470+ bulb lumens
- Nailbender's twin-XPG Linger
- Nailbender or other MC-E, P7, SS-50, S-90...

You've got to go to 18650 instead of 2 CR123 but the price is in your range and I think you'll get 350 OTF real lumens.

XTRMCE XTAR Cree MC-E LED 18650 Rechargeable Flashlight - 400+ lumens $46.49

It's brighter than my MG PLI which is very well thought of here. It does have strobe as one of its 3 modes and that's bad but for under $50...

I have the Eagletac T20C2 and it has a better UI and throws further but doesn't look as bright as the XTAR

Note that batteries will cost as much as the light potentially, which makes your request impossible.

Do you already have an AA battery charger by chance? If so, this reduces your costs and Id highly recommend a good AA flashlight.

Do you have an 18650 charger? If so, go that route. A 1x18650 light such as that XTAR is a great choice. There is also an MG light that is sufficiently bright as well.

If you have neither charger, I would go the AA route personally. This is because you can use AA rechargables for other electronics, whereas an 18650 is fairly worthless. For 30 bucks, you can get a nice eneloop pack with 8xaa, 2xaaa, and a charger. Not bad!

For lights, this is tough. You will have to up the budget. A 2xAA light is ok, but you just wont get that kind of lumen output. There are no 3xAA, 4xAA lights since the form factor isnt very appealing. (with a few exceptions).

I'd go with an itp A6 Polestar. 80 bucks (minus 10% discount at goinggear) with free shipping is what I did for my dad. It is relatively small, claims 700 lumens (probably closer to 500), has 3 useful modes and a holster. Its pretty floody but you can certainly see stuff at some distance; good enough for most people.

i have rcr123's and aa and AAA rechargables

Well BigChelis is your lumens expert around here and he suggests the Eagletac XP-G. You could stick with your 2 X CR123a and get plenty of light. P20C2 Mark II for flood, T20C2 Mark II for a little better throw but bigger head to fit in your pocket....of course Eagletac throws in a nice holster for free.
