I know this is the "Tri-V Information Thread", but can you give me the short version of the differences between the Spy 005 and the Spy 007? I know about the cosmetic changes, but that's it.

I've often had the same questions, Fyrstormer - this thread was helpful to me. Hope it helps you!

Next week I will be calling http://www.mauryshow.com/ to schedule the DNA tests.

That will settle things, once, and for all.

    Default programming question

Couldnt find a better place to ask a programming question, so here goes:

Re: configurations 1-4. It seems like the first step should be selecting a configuration. So lets say I switch to configuration 3. First it goes thru a reset to factory levels for config 3. Right? Now, is everything I do just acting on config 3? If I change the emitter combo or levels, do those get saved at config 3? And do they last until I do a reset? Does the reset only reset config 3? Is that config 3 saved forever? If I change to another config, then back to 3, does it cal to the saved config or to the factory settings?

Has anyone got 4 configs programmed yet?

The answer to all your questions is yes. Except, it will automatically do a PU3 type cal only the first time you do a config 2, 3 or 4. It does that because those matrix locations are empty when you get the light. A PU3 type cal is always to factory emitter and power settings.

Additionally a cal of any of your changes happens at the end of a PU4 sequence automatically.

FYI, the definition of a cal is simply an algorithm in the microprocessor computing what voltage is needed to drive a given emitter(s) to the desired current. It has nothing to do with battery voltage.

    Cheers

Thanks Dave. I watched the videos, read the documentation, and finally got up the nerve to try it. The programming is not bad at all. I was able to tweak the settings with little problem. The level setting took a bit of practice. I'm done playing for now while the adhesive dries on the trit I installed.

I'm sure I am only one of many (most?) who have four configurations set.
Glad to see you got your light!

Got my Tri-V today, I nearly flash my brains out programming it. I found that setting the emitter you want is a hit and miss thing till I figure out it is much easier to set the emitter you want to P2, e.g. if you want to set P5 to reflector and flood, after Power up 4, set the knob to P5, the flashing stops, select the emitter you want to P2 by toggling between P1 and P2, in this case, set the reflector and flood on P2, then turn the light off from P2, after that, it is the power level selecting sequence which is a breeze.
Think about it... a 2 stage light is all you need.

Also, how do you put the lanyard into the beads and Tri-V ? Those holes are damn small ! My reflector is off-center, anyway to fix that ?

I have no idea what you are talking about. For selecting the emitter, toggling back and forth between any two positions will work, it does not mater what two.

Use dental floss to string the bead onto the lanyard. I have found some beads have a hole that is simply too small to fit.

Yes, some of the reflectors are off center by a couple thou. Nothing I can do about it. It does not effect the beam pattern.

ya, selecting emitter will work on any two position but if say we use position P4 to select the emitter, i found that if I switch to the off position just a bit slowly, the system will not record the correct emitter selected, eg, it will select the emitter at P3 cos I turn to the off position too slowly, and trust me, I already tried turning to the off position as fast as I can.

Ya, beam pattern is still great, just a nice amount of flood and throw from the reflector, leaving pure flood and throw to the other two emitters. I am really impressed on the well balanced beam.

Also, when I set 3A to all 3 emitters to light at the same time, how is the current divided ?

In that case there are six die all in parallel. Each of the six die will have slightly different Vf but really the XR-E is higher than the rest by a good bit and in my tests I found it was driven less then the others. So in this case the XR-E is under 500mA were all the other five are over 500mA.

Add to this that the XP-G is more efficient so it puts out more light than any other single die.

    Cheers

Based on what you said in your email I am sure the converter board switch input has failed. I have seen it before, it could be a cold solder joint on the switch.

I suspected as much when you said you could not program it. Because what you were describing would not happen with a healthy converter board.

In any case, the converter board has failed and you will have to send it back. I am sorry that has happened. But I am somewhat sure of what the problem is, so fixing it will be straight forward.

I will fix it up quickly and get it back to you.

    Cheers
    Dave

OK - I have mentally committed to a Tri-V and hope to be quick enough and lucky enough to score one. My 007 has totally convinced me!

Any estimate as to when the next release might be?

    Thank you!

The next batch of Tri-V lights will be ready in two weeks or so (not sooner). It will be a big batch of ~25 lights. This will be the final Tri-V sale.

All the parts are in house, so the only thing holding this sale up is assembly and testing.

GREAT - thank you! Do you think 25 will meet all the demand? Or am I going to have to be by the computer with a lightening quick response?
