Article creates unfounded fear of knife crime

I caught this story on the radio today and was saddened to hear, despite much evidence to the contrary, that violent crimes committed with knives were on the rise. This led to the comment (I did not catch who made it) that Saskatchewan was considering a ban on knives in public. Feel free to correct me if I misheard that comment. While the title clearly suggests knives are the weapon of choice for homicide, the body and actual StatsCan report absolutely do not support that. (see page 6)

What is wrong with our society that makes this sort of overreaction so acceptable?

I had a couple of brief glances at the report.

Essentially it says there is little to no change in knives used in violent crimes since 1974.

Basically, someone is trying to make a mountain from a molehill.

One point that needs to be made clarified, is how much knife crime is made with a knife ?

And not "1. Includes all piercing and cutting instruments in addition to knives, e.g. broken bottle, screwdriver, and scissors. ?"

Maybe we should be banning "Pointed sticks". Or maybe banning youths since they are most like to be involved in violent crimes.
