What are your Powerex 2700's doing on you Maha C-9000 charger for capacity?

Just kind of curious, I have some Powerex 2700's that are about three years old or nearly that and after several refresh and at least one break-in cycle they all register 2350-2450. I'm pretty sure when they were new they were all around 2600. I know that the refresh mode judges capacity a little differently than break-in mode, but it is roughly the same for both, break in mode a little higher I think. They haven't seen any hard use, only light use in cameras with some dormant periods, but I always tried to keep a charge on them. They still seem to keep their charge fairly well despite being non LSD cells.

second break-in cycle 2700mah setting: 2542 2498 2530 2519
third break-in cycle 2700mah setting: 2524 2502 2482 2520
second refresh/analyze mode default settings 1000ma charge 500ma discharge: 2539 2518 2537 2527

I did a break-in on four new 2700's in March and got 2504,2503,2498,2490mAh. If mine keep that kind of capacity after three years I'll be very happy with that.

Maybe I was mistaken then on the original capacity I remember from then, it was about three years ago. Thanks for the info!

I'll run another break-in on them tomorrow and report the capacity in a couple days when it's done.

Here are the 8 Powerex 2700's I've had for a little while. I just recently started keeping records of all my batteries at the beginning of April. If I would've been keeping records earlier, I wouldn't of bought the second set of 2700's on 3/2/2010 (1st set was 12/2/2009). Oh well......live and learn right.

2449, 2444, 2428, 2448, 2489, 2504, 2453, 2463

According with the results of various tests several forum members did, regular NiMH cells are almost allways very optimistic with the advertised capacity, whereas with LSD cells you will probably get what they say they are selling.

I understand that, I'm just curious about cell degradation over time.

I forgot about this yesterday, but I did put the cells in break in mode earlier this afternoon, I'll report the results when available.

Before I got this recent charger this first cycle showed most of the batteries around 2150-2250 if I recall correctly, I believe I gained about 200mah back so far.

I am happy with the performance of the Maha cells, I would call them far from worthless. They seem to have a pretty low discharge rate as well for regular NiMh cell. But I have heard the Duracell 2650's are very good. I did have good luck with some Energizer 2500's several years ago, but I know people have had problems with those in the past.

Here are couple things from Thomas Dist. that helped me in my decision to buy these. They still work fine but not as advertised.

"Ultra high capacity MAHA POWEREX Heavy Duty 2700mAh ( Average 2720 - 2750 mAH ) rechargeable batteries offer true minimum capacity with super long run time!"

"Our tests show that these rechargeable batteries actually average 2720 to 2750mAh in actual capacity. All other manufacturers would have rated these rechargeable batteries at 2800mAh."

Eneloops are forever!

I have heard of LSD cells being a bit dodgy in higher drain applications, so that is the main reason why I have avoided them. That and I tend to charge my cells right before I use them.

You guys seem to have better luck with these cells....i have 16 of them and there all around 2400 mah.......oh well they will still get some use.

I'll keep them for now and hope the numbers get better but if not I will send them back before the 1 yr. warranty is up.

That's probably the best numbers you'll get out of NiMh AA batteries that aren't much fatter than spec. The 2500-2700 batteries already don't fit into a lot of stuff. I know most of the high capacity batteries on the market already are fatter than they should be. The Alkaline batteries you'll find at that capacity spec are much slimmer.

Silverfox tested eneloops up to 10 amps and had graphs somewhere in the forum. I wouldnt call them dodgy unless you compare them with elites...

They finished this morning I got 2515 2474 2519 2487

At least you go two cells that made the minimum capacity rating.....all mine dont even get that high.

Are you getting that rating from the break-in mode or the refresh mode?

Really cant remember.....but i have had my first set for at least a year now.....my second set just a couple of months. I did the R/A and mine dont even meet the min capacity.

Have you tried to return the first set to Maha? They have a 1 yr. warranty. It's worth a try since you have a 50/50 chance of them getting replaced.
