In order to determine whether or not a difference in voltage will damage a circuit depend upon the circuit.

What specific batteries and flashlight are you refering to?

I am no expert with this flashlight, but it appears that if you want to run a rechargable battery in it you need to look at a single 18650 Lithium Ion cell.

A quick search for the skyline quickly showed the compatibility.

For primary cell operation, use 2xCR123 primary cells.

For rechargeable operation, use a single 18650 size li-ion cell.

Do some searching around on the forum to see what 18650s and chargers people are using.

(my recomendation would be a Pila IBC charger, and for cells, AW, Wolf-Eyes, Pila, or Eagletac cells)
