Donn, the specs i saw were 12 to 16 volts for part #63821-5 on Grote wep page, thats why i went with the C-4 Mag and 4-25500 DE, works perfect for the Trilliant or Q4509
Mac...from the website:
LinkTECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Material: Polycarbonate / Aluminum
Finish: Black
Bulb: LED 10V - 30V
Voltage Amp: 12V - 1.4A ; 24V - .7A
Yes, i went there and saw the 10/30V, must have up-graded web, I bought mine about 8 mo. ago for a Ray O Vac sportsmans Par36 lantern converted to 12V
Donn,
I am sorry...since I saw your post above I went back and tried everything over again and found the 2 culprits: fauty switch and 2 bad cells. With the 3 level incan driver switch and a bad cell in the set, a few led lit up. But when I used a clicky, I get 5 out of 6 led lit up, 2 of which were brighter than the rest but still not bright. Now with 3 fully charged 18650 unprotected and even with incan driver switch, it works great even with flashing mode.![]()
Now you need to test it with 3 healthy fully recharged protected cell for long run to see at what voltage it will turn off and what will be run time.
Is the brightness of 3 cells same as 4 cells?
How about 6 IMR16340 in 3x17670 battery holder or 6x16350 in Megalennium?
That would be a giant body with 64mm (2.5") ID to accommodate bundle of 4 cells 26500 or 26650
Please note that outside diameter of Elephant II extension tube is about 54mm (2.125")
I was actually thinking about the longer option for a 4 x 26500 Mega although either way is not very useful beyond running one of these monster Par36 bulbs in this specialized head. The 6v 25w Par36 bulb I have been running in my M6 with 2x26500 now seems puny in comparison to the mag setups of Donn and others so that was the impetus for my post.
I got my Martek Q's today. It's brighter than the 4509, but the beam isn't as clean, close-range against the wall, as the 4509. It looks like a tiny hotspot surrounded by a star-like set of artifacts.
I'll have to wait for darkness to see how it looks long-range.
thank you fm,
the head unit is perfect, the threads work great, look fantastic. i'm waiting on some landing lights to put her together. i was wondering if you were thinking of maybe a par 46,56 or maybe even a 64 big brother version?
thanks again,

it's just different on my planet..
Feeling flush?
Here's a PAR36 LED lamp which outputs 2800 lumens at 36V, for only $470!
It's got it's own built-in protection circuitry, which shuts down half the emitters in low-voltage conditions.
Donn: It's more flexible than you suggest. Your linke says it can take variable voltage of 9V to 36V and consumes 36W.
Anything worth illuminating is worth illuminating to excess.
Any test data on overdriving the GE 4509 or Q4509 or Martek 4509Q? My bench supply is weak and can't deliver the current that these PAR36s demand.
I installed a GE 4509 in a 4D Mag loaded with 5xIMR26500 (this was a 4D Mag623 mod). The light is regulated at 13.0V by a JimmyM JM-PhD-D1 regulator. It's quite the light saber.
I have to do an outdoor comparison between this 4D Mag4509 vs 4D Mag1909 (11.8V) vs 4D Mag440 (18.0V). All are regulated and all use 5xIMR26500.
The Trilliant lamp just arrived, and it's excellent! Very bright on 3x 18650, and it works flawlessly with the D2Flex switch. 5 levels from ultra-low to max.

Whew! No comparison!
very nice. i just picked up a switch today from radio shack to try to fit in a maglite. i got a 4509 and a 4596 to try.
it's just different on my planet..
I added outdoor shots for an Osram 64440IRC in an FM 2.5" Throwmaster.
Maybe I'll get around to comparing a 4D Mag623 regulated at 15.5V using a Throwmaster, a 2D Mag ROP 3854H with an FM SMO Ver2 Deep Reflector and running 6xAA Eneloops in an mdocod holder, a WA1111 regulated at 7.4V in an FM VLOP Ver2 Deep Reflector, a WA1274 in a KT4 TH and regulated at 8.0V by a PhD-M6, an MZXR-7 (7xXRE R2) driven by a Blue Shark set to 810mA drive, a Seoul P4 Mag mod (stock smooth Mag reflector) driven at 1000mA, and a Seoul P7 Mag mod (KD V3.1 15mm opening MOP reflector) driven at 2800mA.
Mine is now complete. I decided I wanted a nice big host to balance the huge head. Easy done, we had 4D Mags a plenty at the summer sales this year.
4D host with 12AA FM battery carrierand 12 Sanyo HR 1700mAh cells
.
Bulb is GE H7604
Bulb tower cut off, switch bypassed with auto headlight relay
, bulb damped with 1 ohm NTC
.
Thanks FM!
If he doesn't want it, Varooj, I'll call backup.
I will be double back up
It is not making meaning to put a third backup now yet![]()
FM PAR36 inspired me to make a PAR46 MagDaddy, Hi/Lo two levels..
GE H7680 HIR, 275KCP bulb. actual performance on 4x LiFePo4 cells(13.5V/6.5Amp): >200,000lux @ 1 meter

Love it.
(just wait until Juggernaut sees this)
I received the Wide Flood replacement for the Trilliant lamp yesterday. It's a lightly diffused clear polycarbonate lens, and it makes for one mighty mule!
