SST-50 4500k/5700k/6500k beamshot comparison. I don't know what kind of reflector/host was used in those beamshots, but you can clearly see the difference in color temps. I hope that helps you figure out what tint/color you want.

Whats the diff between this drop-in modification vs your other one.. $89 vs $99... Sorry for the nuub question however I am looking to purchase one of the drop in mods. I have a 3D mag and a 4D mag. I'll be modifying them 1 at a time because of funds.

Also, 4500k vs 6500k...i want the brightest hehe. Also, will the borafloat glass lens be an upgrade to the stock lens that the mags come with? What difference will i notice with the lens??

The prototype drop-in used a standard reflector and a cree MC-E LED. The units for sale have an upgraded SST-50 LED and use a modified reflector hence the $10 price increase. The drop-in is 6v Maximum so battery holders 3x AA to 1d or 4x AA to 1d can be used but AA's are not a great choice for this drop-in.

Excuse the newbie, but I have two questions before I go out an buy a shiny new Mag host:

(1)Can I use this drop-in with a 2D, 3D, or 4D Mag host (with either Alkaline or Nimh cells)?

(2)Does the output vary between say a 2D versus a 4D set up? I know using Alkalines instead of Nimh reduces output, but what about using 2 Nimh versus 4 Nimh?

Self-discharge

NiMH cells historically had a somewhat higher self-discharge rate (equivalent to internal leakage) than NiCd cells. The self-discharge is 5–10% on the first day and stabilizes around 0.5–1% per day at room temperature.[17][18][19][20][21] This is not a problem in the short term but makes them unsuitable for many light-duty uses, such as clocks, remote controls, or safety devices, where the battery would normally be expected to last many months or years. The rate is strongly affected by the temperature at which the batteries are stored with cooler storage temperatures leading to slower discharge rate and longer battery life. The highest capacity cells on the market (>8000 mA·h) are reported to have the highest self-discharge rates.
Low self-discharge cells

Main article: Low self-discharge NiMH battery
A new type of nickel-metal hydride cell was introduced in 2005 that reduces self-discharge and therefore lengthens shelf life. By using a new separator, manufacturers claim the cells retain 70–85% of their capacity after one year when stored at 20 °C (68 °F). These cells are marketed as "hybrid", "ready-to-use" or "pre-charged" rechargeables. Besides the longer shelf life, they are otherwise similar to normal NiMH batteries of equivalent capacity and can be charged in typical NiMH chargers.
Low self-discharge cells have lower capacity than some standard NiMH cells due to the larger area of the separator. The highest capacity low-self-discharge cells have 2000–2450 mA·h and 850 mA·h capacities for AA and AAA cells respectively, compared to 2800 mA·h and 1000 mA·h for standard AA and AAA cells. But C types are typically higher than their usual NiMH cousins with 4000 mA·h and the D type being 8000 mA·h.
However, after only a few weeks of storage, the retained capacity of low-self-discharge batteries often exceeds that of traditional NiMH batteries of higher capacity

The driver has low-med-high with memory.

When changing mods do not depress the switch all the way just enough to make contact.......once you reach the level your looking for fully depress the switch. If you leave it on for a few seconds in any of the modes and then shut it off for a few seconds it remembers the last mode it was in.

cool thanks.

mine wasn't saving every time.. think it's because:
"leave it on for a few seconds"--I was probably doing bursts shorter than a few seconds(thought it'd save regardless of how long in that mode-thats how my other multimode drop ins w/ memory would work)

got confusing for a second, sometimes it would save, sometimes not.

starting to get the hang of it.

Hi Mac, for one 6500K drop-in and two borofloat lenses w/ US shipping. I was #47 on the original list.

On a side note, I would be interested in more of these if they were available in the 5700K neutral as well as a SST-90 drop in with a higher capacity drive (hint hint ). Are the the 1D hosts OEM Mag or are they aftermarket? If aftermarket are they water proof?
