Hello, a friend of mine is a huge fan of my m@g 85, and he wants one for himself, only problem is he hates the 3 cell for its size and really wants a 2 cell. So, my question is, what kind of mods can i do to get a 2D m@g with around 500 lumens, 1 hour of runtime. Cost is not much of an issue and those numbers are flexible, just looking for something in that ball park. Any input would be great! Thanks and cheers!

Use 2 IMR 26650 and WA1274 in 2D M*g
Brightness well over 500 lumens.
Run time about 85 minutes.

Also, the 1185 can be built with a Mag2D as I did (before changing to the 1909 bulb) using 3xIMR26500 and deanodized tailcap. However, it won't run for an hour. If you can get hold of 3x Li-Co 26500 cells, that would work better, and you don't have to worry about :poof:ing the bulb.

So where are the cheap metal reflectors these days?

Get the FM Bi-focal reflector. I have one in my 2C Mag74 and it is incredible - loads of throw and plenty of useable spill.

How does the 1274 on 2 IMR 26650 compare to the 3854H bulb on the same cells when it is drawing about 4.4 amps?

The 1274 isn't as bright as a 3854H bulb but isn't near as fragile in my experience. I have two 3854H bulbs running right now but went through six bulbs to find two that would not self destruct. Two self destructed during the break in process using a 6volt supply. The 1274 pulls over an amp less current as well. If you are going for the WOW factor stick with the 3854H, if you want reliability and runtime I would use something else.

My personal favorites in the 2D size are 3854L and the Mag Charger bulb. Both draw around 2 amps so they will last around two hours one two IMR 26650s. They both throw well too.

If you are looking for the most WOW in the 2D size three 26500 and the FM1909 bulb are the best I've found so far. Runtime around 20 minutes.

Thank you fivemeg! I guess i need to find a ceramic bi pin base and reflector. Do i need a different lens for this mod?
They are available in modified B/S/T section of this forum.
And yes, you will need high temp (BOROFLOAT) lens too.

Obviously, 3854 H will produce more light and drives harder than WA1274 in mentioned configuration.
Statement on post #3 was to respond OP who wants around 500 lumens, 1 hour of runtime in 2D M*g.
There are many many differnt configuration possibilities for 2D M*g

Is the 1274 considerably less white than the 3854H? I already have a 3854H but would be interested in the 1274 as it seems almost as bright (if it truly is 500 lumens, since the 3854H realistically isn't all that much more than that except at the very beginning of the runtime), but doesn't draw anywhere near as much power.

Build a 2D mag with ROP-H (3854-H) and 2x IMR 18650 or 2x IMR26500. Use a tailspring out of a cheap flashlight--it will fit right in the ledge on the Mag D tailcap with a little cutting and bending. Simple design, cheap to build, & bright. You will need a glass lens and an aluminum reflector.
