LaCrosse BC-700 questions

Hi there,

I just got a BC-700 charger, have now refreshed a few batteries on it but still have some lingering questions that are not at all answered in the documentation that came with the charger.

1. What is an ideal charging rate for the batteries? It seems to default to 200. But I've read elsewhere that 200 is not good for some batteries. All of my batteries are NiMH rechargeables, but they're all different brands with expiration dates all over the map. I have the AA's in Eneloop, Energizer, and old Rayovacs; the AAA's are Eneloop and Energizer.

2. I am not really understanding Test mode. What am I testing *for*? Does the hours display refer to number of hours the battery will power my flashlight now that its recharged? Or something else? What is the volts display for? How do I know that the Test mode is done? (I know with refresh mode, eventually the display says full.)

3. What does ma and mah stand for?

Thank you! I am obviously a complete newbie to this, and could really use a Batteries for Dummies sort of article.
