Just like to share this is how I solder directly to the XP-G bare emitter with lead free solder. Emitter courtesy from KevinL.

Thinking about trying this myself... Did any of the emitters suffer/get damaged? What precautions did you take/what was your method?

You must have experience using a soldering iron. This is not a easy thing to do for some one that has little experiece soldering.
You must have steady hands. If you touch the tip of your iron to the led dome it will burn a spot on it that you will never get rid of.
I'am not saying you can't do it. It can be done.

I solderd an xml that way once, its doable but you really need to secure the wires somewhere near the emitter.
If you dont do that those little soldering pads may come off.

There is most likely dome material covering the top "pads," scratch off with xacto, tin the wire, tin the pad.

Curious, you just solder to the pads just to see if you could do it, or did you actually have a reason to do this?
