Am I risking life and limb?

I retrieved this Panasonic 2900mAh cell from a charger (current cell voltage is 4.17V) and noticed this brown stain around the positive contact.



Would anyone know what has happened?

I do not know what this brown stain is. It is the first time I have seen that. When I came to this part about some dangerous batteries, I feel i must nerve my psych when I use some battery. Safety is importance.

I suggest don't use that battery again.

Nope That's an out of focus plastic bag on the floor behind it.

dispose it right now. Safety is important.

Next time I choose to buy the battery, I will choose some well-branded battery.

OP said it was a Panasonic; doesn't get any branded than that.
