I was looking through my Northern Tool catalog and saw some Klutch LED lights, one of which looks like it's a 2x18650, 15 watt and 900 lumens!

The reviews on the site give it 4.8 out of 5 stars, but you guys are the experts.

I know that the lumens are probably over-rated but for the $140 it costs, I just wonder is it worth it?

They also have a 3 watt for about $40

120 lumen, 8 hr runtime

Thanks,

"Klutch" brand light?

Just got an e-mail from northern tool web site, featuring this light

Looks to be a chinese light I've seen on deal extreme. Anyone have experience with that light?

Gee, I have the same e-mail and the same questions. I'll be the lumen rating is greatly inflated. But it does sound interesting. And rechargeables are getting better and better as battery technology improves.

It's a re-branded Ultrafire or Trustfire or Insert-any-wordFire. Cheap Chinese light, it can do the job but for that price, you can buy a lot of better flashlights including Ra or Surefire. I'm almost certain that it's this light. DX sells it for 1/3 of the price...

I think you nailed it. Same five 3-watt Cree LED's, same two 18650 Li-ion cells.
Most of Northern's customer reviews were good, though one buyer had trouble with switches on at least two lights. But they aren't "flashlight" people, and most customers say good things right after they get the light. Ask me about my light after I've used it hard for at least a year.

Bumping this and hoping to see a response. Saw the same light on sale at Northern Tools for $129, and it looks like a heck of a light, with good reviews on their site. Anyone have experience with this brand of light?

My instinct is that if they use 18650 cells they must be serious about their product, as most consumers don't even know what those are. I'm curious about this now, too...

It looks like this like to me http://www.dealextreme.com/p/mega-5-cree-p4-wc-led-flashlight-2-18650-12587. I would purchase from DX if you want to save some $.total cost from DX 65.36. Shipping is usually 2 weeks to California. I have purchased from DX and have had good luck with what I have purchased. I would not purchase this light if you think you are going to get 900 lumens from it. Look at http://goinggear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=14_22&products_id=2930 or http://goinggear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=14_23&products_id=1880. Batteries not included with these lights though.

At least any non-hobbyist can just walk into a store and buy a 18650 driven led flashlight with charger without having to mail-order. I don't know of any B&M store where I could find 18650 battery/charger in my area.
