A friend of mine purchased a Peak AAA aluminum keychain light at my recommendation. Hes had it for about 6 months and the other day the light was turned off, in his pocket, and he felt a pop in his pocket. A hole had blown out from the rear of the light. He had an alkaline Energizer AAA battery in there.

It would appear that the battery was emitting gas, and the O ring held the pressure until the thin material around the lug simply burst. How unusual is this? The O ring is not that tight, but for the future, I recommended to my friend that we try to find a thinner O ring to allow gases to expel.

Any thoughts? I would never have thought an alkaline carried in the pocket could present such a danger.
