    Hello Guys,

    Recently I have gain a lot of interest for the 26650 battery. I love stubby and high output lights and 26650 is perfect for it! Beside the Maelstrom S12 I was only able to find two other 26650 host for a mod project. One is sold at cnqualitygoods and the other goes by the name TorchLite. The Cnqualitty version is sold for $43 for the XPG and $55 for the XML version. I heard that 26650 could push around 4-7A direct drive. Isn't this pretty ideal for SST90? Worst case scenario we could just sandwich a couple of 1.4A slave drivers with a control 2.8A 3 mode to drive the SST90. There is a IMR 26650 on ebay. Well what do you guys think? Please share any comment you have with regards to modding or the 26650 configuration. Cheers!

    I too have gained some interest in a good 26650 light. I had seen the Torchlight host and liked it a lot but the other contender you mentioned could even be cooler. Plus, you can use an extension tube for 2 x 26650

    Aren't there some Mounted SST-90 emitter/driver combos out there already? I suppose I don't know how many Amps they would draw but I think that seems like a more feasible mod for me. If you've got the gumption to piece everything together yourself however, I applaud you and can't wait to see what you come up with.

    There are other sst90 lights...but 26650 host besides the S12??

    I found some more 26650 Host...

    2W SAIK SA-305
    UltraFire MCU-C88

    both of these host are originally 3XAA host..

    they both fit 26650, ??? maybe, (lenght of AA is 50mm, 26650 is 65mm, so no garrantee that 26650 will fit there,) but fit is one thing , work is the other, i'm 99.9% sure switches in those hosts are not anywhere near being able to handle even 5amps not to mention, more.
    also there is not nearly enough mettal to heatsink sst 90 even at 5a for longer than a minute or so.

    Default 26650 VS 2 X 26500

    Hi,
    Slightly off topic but relates to the 26650 as I've been debating this build as well.
    I have a few 2 x C cell Lowes Task Force flashlight. I really like the feel since it's not so thick compared to D cell lights. My question is with regards to runtime and sustained brightness. When I had a TK30, one 18650 did not run as long or bright as 2 x 18650 (to be expected when you double the capacity). Would you expect the same with 2 x 26500 vs 1 x 26650 if one could locate optimized driver for each configuration (i.e. running at ~ 2.5amps for their respective voltage output) or would the difference be minimal? I didn't know if the larger size of the 26650 would have less voltage sag compared to 26500 which would then negate any real world differences.

    No, as the 26650 IMR's are hybrid IMR; AW's 26500's are full IMR which explains their porportionallly less capacity.

    actually 26500 has less voltage sag, and has lower internal resistance than 26650, also have you tried inserting those cells into your light?? mag C needs to be bored out to take those cells, other C cell lights might need that as well.
    i can't tell anything about runtime unless you tell us what driver\led you be using.

    The 2 26650s listed on ebay are more expensive than the ones on batteryspace. If you live in the USA I would suggest getting them from Batteryspace; it is easy to get ripped off on ebay with non IMR cells (and the batteryspace cells are $12).
    The 26500s may have slightly less voltage sag than the IMR 26650s, but the 26650s will handle basically anything that a current LED can draw. They are rated up to 10A continuous discharge, or 20A for short periods. My 26650s experience a current of about 4.4 amps when freshly charged in my ROP and handle it just fine.
