Do any of the Fenix headlamps have a bezel that screws off and a reflector that lifts out, by chance?

I seem to remember a post (perhaps lost, not sure) where the HL20 was disassembled (and LED changed). Bezel did NOT screw off in a nondestructive way.

Nice find, Microa, that is an excellent description of head removal.

I found the thread I was thinking of:

http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?306349-Fenix-HL20-XP-G-R5-Mod

To summarize, you can get the head off with heat, you'll break the power wires, but it is fixable. So, destructive but reversible. The modder did not touch the reflector, so I believe that part of the original question remains unanswered.

I got the bezel of my HL20 off pretty easily today without destroying it.

Took a lighter to the bezel (careful not to melt the plastic body) for about 10 seconds. Used a strap wrench to to unscrew.

Fenix used a rubbery glue to seal it so not much cracking, though it took a few minutes with an X-acto knife to scrape off all the glue.

I'm contemplating an emitter swap, but I only have one neutral at the moment that I might want to use for something else.

The HP-10 front reflector shroud will unscrew without damage ...

after the internal ring is unscrewed (from inside the light body)

There are locking pins around the back of the shroud ,
which hold it locked in place to the front of the plastic body ,
not allowing it to be turned - if just attempting to do it externally.

You have to go at it from the inside of the case . Once that internal ring
is unscrewed from the shroud , it allows the shroud to move forward ,
which allows the locking pins molded onto the rear of the shroud , to
then come out of the holes in the body , and the shroud can then turn .

If those shroud pins are permanently removed , it will allow the shroud
to be unscrewed in the future without having to first gain access to the
interior body of the housing and that internal screw ring . (Hot glue might
hold that internal ring in place.)

Once the shroud is removed then you have access to the reflector .
The reflector can even be temporarily removed at times for doing
close-up work ... allowing a pure flood beam . (Like a ZebraLight beam )

Once you know how to remove the shroud and reflector, you can experiment.

Can I ask why your contemplating an emitter swap for the HL20 ?

And in general ,.. what do you think about the HL20 ?

Thanks

I swapped in a neutral XPG R4.

I think it's a great light, especially since it comes with a diffuser. My only gripe with it is that it feels a little bulky compared to my Zebralights.
