I'm looking to buy some night vision goggles? I have no experience or knowledge about them, generally I want take up night hunting so I get they would be quite handy and that would be their main use... does anyone know where to start looking for some and some insider tips or information regarding night vision goggles I should know or consider before purchasing a pair?
In general I would stick with a gen 3 or new style of goggle,or you may also want to consider a
night vision scope, I have a pair of AN/PVS 7B's their ability to amplify light is overwhelming.

A single star is more than enough to make the landscape look like just before dusk, but as another
poster said there is zero depth perception, so walking on rough terrian is difficult, also the focus needs to be adjusted for close and far distances.
This should not be required since a flashlight can be used until you are in position.
That being said for observing and working in the dark their power is amazing, a friend just got back from hunting on Kodiak Island and was stuck at camp with all the sounds of the night and lamented his inability to see the animals with the eyes reflecting back at him.
What you can expect from a pair of Generation 3 goggles is this, in a pitch black setting, cloud cover and no moon, you ought to be able to identify the type of animal you are observing at 100 yrds or greater.
The 7B also has a built in infra red light for total darkness situations such as closed buildings with zero residual light.
I saw a pair like mine on Amazon for 2000.00, prices seem to range from that to over 3000.00 so shopping is critical.
