I like the look of these but already have the triple p7.. Have you thought about designing a triple triple xpg sink? Those triple's really throw out some lumens. Id jump on one in a moment even if i had to source led's/driver. Just a thought.

Re: Triple Cree XM-L T6 Dropins for D size Mag-Lites
I think the current heatsink is compatible with XP-G. All you need to do is swap the emitter.
-
Re: Triple Cree XM-L T6 Dropins for D size Mag-Lites
I think by 'triple triple', PapaLumen is after nine XP-G emitters, rather than making a direct swap from three XM-Ls to three XP-Gs - something like the Mac 3300L.

3x stt-90 will be an option

Yes exactly, 3 triple xpg boards not just 3 xpg's. I guess the pockets not so deep so the triples with their carclo optics end up right behind the glass...
I have a couple of bike lights using 2x triple xpg boards in each ala mathewm on here. They are crazy bright. A triple triple would be the daddy.

what's the benefit of using 9 XP-Gs ?

Re: Triple Cree XM-L T6 Dropins for D size Mag-Lites
hmm yeh i suppose now i think about it they should be similar in output. How about 4x triples? They fit...

Re: Triple Cree XM-L T6 Dropins for D size Mag-Lites
sure, there is enough space.
You can even put 3x SST-90 in it but the Mag-Lite can't dissipate more heat. That's why 3 XM-L configuration is the maximum in my opinion.

Re: Triple Cree XM-L T6 Dropins for D size Mag-Lites
Hi der Wichtel, just a few quick questions.
1. Can you or do you plan to get any XML U2 in stock anytime soon?
2. Can you provide further information on the reflector you provide in this package? Can you tell us how it compares to this reflector at DX? http://www.dealextreme.com/p/3-cree-...m-x-50mm-11922
3. Is it possible to just buy two heatsinks alone? Can you give me a quote for just two heatsinks? Thank you.
Can anyone that has received theirs take some more pictures of the package? I'd like to see more views or the heatsink in particular.

1: I don't know when my supplier will have U2 XML LEDs
2: What information do you need? I don't have that DX reflector
3: the heatsink costs 17€ each

Hi Der Wichtel, I am interested in getting your heat sink, reflector, and your LED board with no LED's so I can put XML U2's on your board. I will also be using an H6flex driver as well. Can your board handle 6.1 amps? How do I mount my U2 LED's to your board? Are there any special instructions?

Re: Triple Cree XM-L T6 Dropins for D size Mag-Lites
Hi DW, a quality looking product. Very tempted to stick one in my 5 D cell Mag, would it just be a matter of soldering some + & - wires to the drop in module ? Do you have any approx lumen readings when on full power ? Thanks.

it sounds like as if you want to drive the LEDs in parallel but the board connects the LEDs in series.
I apply solder paste through a stencil onto the board and then together with the LEDs into a selfbuild reflow oven.
If you don't have that equipment you can try it in your kitchen on the heating plate with regular solder but can be a little bit difficult.
First, put some solder onto the board with your soldering iron, just a little bit. Let it cool down and apply some flux. Then put the LED onto it and heat everything up above the heating plate. The LED will align by itself. Remove the board as soon as the LEDs are aligned and put the board onto a piece of aluminum.
The kit without driver and LEDs costs 40€ plus shipping.

Yes, that is correct. As for the single mode dropin you just have to solder the wires from the dropin module to the switch.
I don't have any Lumens readings but I guess something around 2700 Lumens from the LED.

Would it be possible for me to order three XML U2's and get them shipped to you so I can have you put them on the triple board for me? Your board can handle 6 amps, right? Oh, and yes series for the three XML's. 6 amps is strictly for 5 second burst. I will be making a custom heatsink that travels down the body of the mag.

Re: Triple Cree XM-L T6 Dropins for D size Mag-Lites
Sure, just send me a pm.
The board should be capable for 6A current but I don't think the LEDs will withstand 6A even for 5 seconds

You are right. I was mistaken on the 6 amps part. Max mode will be 4.6amps. I will be contacting you via pm about getting the xml u2's sent to you soon and I will be ordering the heatsink, board loaded with three u2's and the reflector. I plan to use a flex driver with 4 18650s in a mag D.

I believe that DW has been travelling a lot recently, so may not have continuous access to the internet. As I understand it, he should be about more this month, so hopefully you'll get a response soon.

Yes you are right, I was in Sweden lately.
A few days ago I started work on my bachelor thesis which takes a lot of time at the beginning to comply with all formalities.
So I'm only at home in the evening where I try to answer most of the questions.
@richpalm: I just got one message from you. Maybe I missed some of them can you resend them please?
