I've never had a dynamo system, but it's my understanding that they have a rather high output impedance -- could have overvoltage issues with some switching regulated circuits. They're also AC, so you need to make sure the circuit handles reverse polarity.

If you don't want to build a standlight circuit, I'd be inclined to just direct-drive an XM-L (or better, two wired in reverse-parallel) to run on opposite half-cycles), should run something like 1A or so, and each LED serves as reverse-voltage protection for the other one. Of course you'll want different optics, but that's true in any case. PR-base LED modules are usually fairly poor performers in standard reflectors -- only the everled comes close in emission pattern (thanks to the old Luxeon side-emitter), and it would be rather less bright than your present rig (also thanks to the old Luxeon side-emitter).
