Problems with brinkmann spotlight on boat

My brinkmann rechargeable works when plugged into my car but will not work when plugged into the cigarette lighter on the boat. Boat is getting full voltage and other items work when plugged into this same plug. RED LED light on plug illuminates whem plugged into either the car or the boat, but the spot light will only come on in the car.
Any thoughts?
