I am interested in modding my "mickey mouse" MJ-816 bike light. I understand I will lose some lumens, but I hope to make it up in better quality light and if I can limit the loss in light by a newer, more advanced LED, that would be good.

I have been wandering around the Cree datasheets and think that a
XP-G-WHT-U1-0000-00AE7 would work or maybe the XP-E-HEW version. They are 90CRI LEDs with a Q2 87.7 flux. Would these be a drop in? I have not taken it apart yet, so how much and what exactly would need to be replaced? Is there a better choice? XP-L? What packaging do I need? Are there multiple LEDs in one lamphead? I can find my way around a soldering iron - usually, but simple and staightforward would be very welcome.

I have not found a high CRI replacement for the SSCp7 LED, any recommendations?

Any advice on how to successfully accomplish the mod without destroying stuff or buying the wrong parts would be appreciated.
