Default Ugly Rings in Fireworm H1 Q3 (neutral)

Hey I just got one of these for my GF who
uses 16340s in her lights (H31 etc) and
thought it would be nice for reading and indoors
    use.

Im kinda bummed on the beam tho - its got some
    rings around the outside...

I think the head is glued shut like an H501 so I dont
know if i can open it and reposition the emitter or not.

she probably wont mind but Im def a bit disappointed.

anyone else have an H1 with rings?

I don't know much about the Fireworm but it says that it has a Q5 emitter. If that is a XR-E (rather than XP-E) then it's probably just the "Cree ring" right?

No much you can do about it even if you can open it up other than painting the ring black (or changing emitters).

If it's going to be used indoors just put a piece of translucent tape over the lens and that will take care of the problem.

yeah it looks like an XR-E
its a really nice ~4000k tint
basically an H30 ripoff with a neutral emitter.
Im under the assumption the XR-E zebras didnt
    have any artifacts?

AND I really like the simple elastic loop holder
maybe even more than the standard zebra/spark
silicone. the elastic is more secure feeling while at
the same time being easier to pull the light out of.

simple UI starts on low and double click to HI
    hold to ramp infinite.

got it on ebay for 35$ shipped so it was still a good
deal even with the little rings.

I only have the H51f and H51 so I don't know what the XR-E models were like but if they were floody then I supose an optic was used which would take care of the ring.

    Does yours use a reflector?

no reflector - it has an optic just like an original zebralight flood.
its basically a ripoff - but besides the rings its pretty nice!

I think maybe the emitter is too far or too close to the optic causing
    the rings to be visible.

Im just being picky I think.

Are the rings outside of the beam? The nature of the XR-E is that the metal lens holding ring creates internal reflections and therefore projects rings outside of the main light beam/spot. Its in the nature of aspheric XR-E lights to do this, and my H2 does this, but its not really relevant and you don't notice it in normal use. Do you have a picture of the beam of yours?

And another question, does yours exhibit a visible flicker on lower outputs. Set the brightness to minimum, and while pointing the torch at yourself, swing the torch around. Do you see the flickering light, or a constant light?

yeah its mostly outside of the beam and
we used it last night outside without it bothering
us at all. I didnt notice the PWM flicker and
    Im fairly sensitive to it.
Id take some beamshots but I bought the light
for my GF and its at her house. the tint is really
nice- on the warm side of neutral but not too
warm. it seems brighter than 100 lumens to me
but maybe its just the floody nature makes it seem
brighter. Ill post beamshots next time I borrow the
light. I wish it ran on 18650 - Id grab one for myself
    if it did.
