Dead easy to plate the negative. Bit more difficult to plate the positive but it can still be done.

Getting to grips with a new camera, but here are a few photos from the meet:

The dining table with generous spread laid out

Jay sporting the latest nasal and ear illumination, begging the question 'Will people want lights that can be fitted nasally?'

Some of the Monster lights including something around the 1kW output

A 65W HID shining along the beach

A mysterious ocean 'light-imp' caught our attention

My beam is bigger than yours...

Nice pictures Subwoofer. No pictures from me this time as I mostly shot video instead. I will try and edit it all 'soon', (which means some time between now and the day I die).

Another great UK meet up. Thanks Nychto!

Cheers for the photos Sub! Looks like a great time was had by all. Sad to say, I liked the last photo best of all, even though there was no torches in it.

I had a great time. Thanks again to Lee, not only for letting us invade his property but also for the best toasted cheese crumpets and fried breakfast I had in a long time.

Hurry up with that video. I want to see myself taking out a coke from twenty paces.

So what did you do at the weekend?

    I had fun with torches!

They started to accumulate long before dark.

    The Big,

    And the tiny.

    Some were even stackable!

My Vintage medical magnifier found it's smarter brother thanks to Petrev. Greater power too.

    Blueled checking for moles!

remoteneeded and petrev checking for crisps!

Trying some of petrev's vintage Leffe beer.

    Rather them than me.

    Down the hatch.

    How old is this?

    Drink by 2003!

Time for big mods...(not on CPF!)

    ...and hotspots.

And for petrev to choose his purchases for this week (and in order)

Meanwhile Jay R starts to prep my Raw NS for gold plating - polish first.

    Chemicals of the toxic variety.

    Acid fizzing loudly.

    Time for Gold.

One down, one to go. Nice!

    Here's some he made earlier.

Night finally fell, and after a supper of the finest take away the local village could muster (I couldn't decide between Savaloy and chips or chinese, so I had both!)

I have a feeling Jay R should NOT do quite so much plating in his spare time!

Turn night into day with loadsa lumens!

    CPF UK SEASIDE MEET 2011

Thanks for the fun, chaps. L-R remoteneeded, Subwoofer, Jay R, Blueled, Stephen, cdosrun and petrev. Next time I'll bring my camera remote!

Definitely too much Gold solution, Jay.

The next day those who stayed found my old Airpistols - not used for about fifteen years!

    Let the plinking begin!

Back on topic, petrev here demonstrates the Harries-Weaver technique.

Gotta love an old Surefire 6P.

That's it chaps, fun fun fun, in the sun, sun, rain, wind, thunder, lightning and sun.

To all those who made it, thanks for coming, to those who couldn't, my heartiest commiserations and see you next time.

    When shall we meet again?

Great photos. Sorry I couldn't be there. I'm getting withdrawal symptoms over here as the container with my stock still hasn't arrived. I've been informed that they have made it across the Atlantic so their waterproof qualities won't be tested!

Although I can't comment on the 'Weaver' part of that, my ocassionally compulsive nature means I have to point out that the 'Harries Flashlight Technique' involves the shooter's wrists nesting together and the backs of the hands being firmly pressed together to create stabilizing isometric tension.

    Michael Harries himself:

Some other views of the Harries technique

The picture below from the US Marine Corps Pistol Markmanship handbook shows a couple of other approved two handed techniques

There are quite a few recognised methods including the Modified FBI, Surefire and Neck-Index methods, with the Modified FBI being the only one not to reveal the exact location of the shooter to an enemy as the torch is held away from the body.

A little video demonstrating these techniques:

I have not come across the method petrev is demonstrating, and wonder if he is indeed demonstrating the petrev technique

(Although on a note of safety from someone who has provided pistol shooting instruction, please don't rest a pistol on the back of your arm; if using firearms, there is significant danger in doing so due to the moving parts catching in clothing, recoil knocking the pistol off your arm and with revolvers the cylinder gap flash burning you. Air pistols of course are not so hazardous.)

Apologies for veering a bit off topic and probably going on a bit...

OK, I meant to say he was using the Harries-Weaver-Petrev technique. Exclusive to West Sussex. Also, the holes in his forearm will soon heal up, as long as he keeps them clean. The cans were DOA however.

(BTW - the Weaver bit is the standing upright, feet firmly planted with the handgun held along line of sight and arms fully extended. At least the LEO site I visited said that was the case. I like the neck index method myself.)

Back on topic - next time bring your air pistol, Sub.

Ah-ha, though I was trying to be kind about the Weaver bit (as I know what the Weaver Stance is), but I probably could conclusively state that the Weaver technique was not employed as it should result in the chest pointing only slightly away from the target and the elbows should be facing down not sideways. (the arms are normally fully extended, but can be used in a 'close' position with the hands brought closer to the body with the elbows still pointing down).

Wish I had remembered to bring the air pistols, but I had a few things on my mind and forgot. You might need to remind me nearer the time, but a meet on private property makes this sort of addition much easier.

No, that's 'Weaver' as in Dennis Weaver who played McCloud on TV for a number of years and perfected this half crouch stanch for firing a Colt 45 Peacemaker while wearing a stetson and dark glasses. I forget the reason, but it used to be very popular.

I'll stick with the Harries-Weaver-McCloud-Petrev stance and leave it at that.

No, we had changeable weather - sun, rain, and above all, wind. I was going to brave the sea (With wetsuit and surfer) but time got away from me. Lots of organizing to do before the meet.

Spring sounds good - just got to get through winter and Christmas first!

The trouble with having these great meet ups of like minded people, are the aftermath of seeing all those lovely bright and shiny things - the torches. Or to be precise, the torches we haven't got ourselves.

Only just over a week since the meet and I have already caved in and bought two Shining Beam S-Mini lights - one with XPG and one with XML.

    Curse you CPF meets!!!

BTW - nice lights from a good company - quick service from NY to UK.

Anybody else take the plunge? There were a few ooh's and Ahhs at my Sunwayman V10R Ti for instance... I'm also very fond of cdosrun's Ra Rotary.

    Must resist.

ps. How are the S-Minis -

OK - Yes, I love the Sunwayman too.

My old 6P is a keeper!

    Not Nitecore, a 4Sevens Mini CR2.

I have no willpower, just an over riding need to buy new torches.

Resistance would be futile if I put up any at all.

The S-minis are great - no probs so far - they get used as cycling lights mostly on high - one on helmet, one on handlebars - the XPG on helmet cos of the throwier beam, the XML (slightly green tint BTW) on the handlebars for good floodier road illumination. Up to two hour bike rides with no discernable loss of output. Also nice and light which is a must for a helmet light. Design means no probs with the new 'Nippleless' AW 18650 2900mAh cells. Nice for the price and in action.

Just got back from another weekend at the coast - seems empty on the beach at night with just my torches for illumination! Certainly no chance of my torches alerting the authorities as all yours did, Petrev!!

Well, that night, after illuminating every inch of the beach with the kind of landing lights that Petrev has a penchant for (see pix above) we returned to the bungalow for chats and snacks and to warm up a bit. Then the time came for the locals to leave us for their homes - i.e. cdosrun and subwoofer wended their weary ways.

So we were considering the delights of late night freeview watching - Q.I. or Top Gear? - when the phone rang, it was cdosrun. He had just been stopped by the local Police as soon as he hit the main road in the Village. Two squad cars, apparently - that must be all of them for miles around!

Pause for dramatic tension..........OK, that's all you're getting.

The Officer stated they had received some calls about a "torch based incident" down on the beach and they were enquiring as to whether they had seen anything. cdosrun told them all about us (and why not) and even showed him his HDS Rotary EDC. The spill light of all those beams must have been quite a sight to the unsuspecting local, most of the houses there do not have curtains on the seaward sides, so it's no surprise we were noticed. I think we may have glared the full beams onto a couple of buildings by mistake!

The policeman seemed very interested ( I can't remember what torch he had, but it was declared at the time, and was not a piece of junk ) and went off happy with the knowledge of us and of this forum.

cdos said he had told him where we were, if he wanted to come and see the lights. But, alas, he never showed up.

If that LEO is reading this now, join up and come to the next meet! You'd be more than welcome.

What is the world coming to when people report a bunch of guys playing with torches to the police. Suppose they could have thought that the beams were from a UFO trying to abduct people
