Thread: I bought 2 Surefire P60 lamp assemblies on Ebay...

Default I bought 2 Surefire P60 lamp assemblies on Ebay...

I purchased 2 surefire P60 lamp assemblies on Ebay. They were described as new but arrived without packaging. Does Surefire sell lamps in bulk, which could explain the lack of retail packaging, or did I receive take-off/knock-off/used/unknown pedigree bulbs? This is my 1st post. I am a certified flashaholic & a recent Surefire enthusiast. This is a great forum.

I've purchases lots of Surefire lamps on ebay and they were *all* in original packages. I have on occasion received open Surefire lamps as extras with a used Surefire flashlight. If there was no retail packaging it should have been listed as "new-other." They could be real. Do they work okay? I've noticed that the Surefire lamps are usually brighter than similar Chinese incandescent lamps. I just got 2 P60 lamps in the mail this week and they were both in retail packaging. The lamps from China usually come in bubble wrap. I have not installed either of them yet. I once ordered a Surefire extension and the deal was cancelled by ebay because it was a counterfeit part. The vendor sent it to me for free with appolgies.

Some people buy 6P then part it out for profit. In this case lamp assembly is new but without package.

Yes, 6Ps and C2s and Z2s and G2s. None can be bought without P60s.

Are the lamps clean? Any scatch marks? Nice and bright w/ shiny bulbs?

Both lamps work & look to be in excellent shape. Seller said they were take-offs from new incandescent Surefires that had been sold with replacement led lamps. I only paid $6.95 for them, but as Hotwire said, they should have probably been listed as "new-other". Oh well, live and learn. I'm lovin' my C2 regardless.

They are probably genuine Surefire P60s. When I started messing with flashlights I'd discard the incandescent lamp and installed a brighter LED. I have a few P60 modules that I did not discard, and thought I never use them.... *Of course I'll use them!* I've seen the light. I have bright lights and dim lights, and since I cannot use them all at once, I usually choose a dim light like a G2 with a p60 and a 17650 battery. Bright enough for most uses around the house. If I need more light, I'm in the right place with larger, more powerful lights both incandescent and LED. Enjoy your P60 modules!

It's not really doing that P60 any good to be run at that low voltage. Plus the output is pretty awful looking on underdriven lamps.

    Point 1: wrong
extends the life of the bulb by a much higher factor than just the reduction in current

    point 2: right
underdriven incan gives "result" that does not really comply with energy saving

I use the G2 with P60 *all the time* around the house. It's fine for simple tasks, a bit yellow, but... I have others should I need bright light! It's lasted a long time, and I have a lot of spares from LED conversions that I've made. I also have several 7.4v dropins that can take 2 RCR123s, but I don't need that much light most of the time. I also have a Surefire light with the Oveready triad. I also have one with a Malkoff M91 in a G2 with an aluminum head! Very bright! And.... I have a 3.7v dropin coming in the mail for comparison. I use an Oveready tail-standing switch with McClicky installed. And.... a collection of ROPs with resistance fixes, digital slow start switches, 3 M6s with various incandescent bulbs (rechargeable batteries), several M4 with SW1 and SW2 switches, and Mag 85s of various flavors. Very handy candle!

Last night I dropped my G2 with P60 and 17670 on the tile floor while it was on! This light has the Oveready tailstanding switch. The light stayed on! Bulb survived! I have to agree with yellow regarding both points. The bulb has lasted many years (without the tailstanding tailcap) running on 17670. The underdriven P60 gives a yellow light and does not seem to extend battery life. I usually change the battery every few days when I think of it--not because the light is any dimmer. I use the light everyday at home. It is a little large for me to EDC.

    A photo is thousand words
Take a photo of the P60
The quality of springs and the glue between reflector cup and the base are the evidence whether it is genuine or not
    and following:
    Batch code on reflector
    Material of the "base"
    Horizontal lines on reflector
The quality of blue sticker saying SUREFIRE - P60

Could be someone like me that takes out new SF lamps to add Malkoff's, or Nailbender's. I have a ton of them (P60's and P90's) that are new from the light out of the package, and if or when I sell them, I would make it clear they are new removed from the now host, and do not include packaging like they were a spare replacement bulb.

Still new just out of a new light being used for a host, so no packaging.

Frankly, I thought about just taking them to the police station where I have some connections, and giving them away.
