A new version of the famous Favourlight lantern - 500 lumens?

The only way it's hitting 500 lumens with a Q4 bin emitter (in whichever form it takes - I'll forego my normal rant about bin codes) is if there's three of them. If there were, and they were driven at the power required, it'd be a 9W (or more) lantern.

Also you may want to fix your link - you post is displaying the HTML, rather than a clickable link.

Those specs are bull. A single emitter in the Q4 flux bin isn't going to emit 500 lumens without blowing or having some really good active heatsinking. I need a break from writing this paper, so let's look at these claims.

The datasheet from Cree says that even an XP-G in the R5 bin is only expected to get 463 lumens at 1.5 A (taking a Vf of 3.55 V at that point, we're at ~5.3 W). Imagine how much more current something in the Q4 bin would need to draw.

On to the runtimes. 3 D cells, let's assume that they're 1.5 V, 12 Ah. That would give us a total of 54 Wh, excluding losses due to drawing a high current. Even if we assume that it's drawing 3 W as opposed to 5 W, that's still only 18 hours. It would have to draw ~ 1 W in order to have 50 hours.

Seems to me that they're over-stating its capabilities in everything but weight.

I am not familiar with this model, but I agree with everything stated above.

I doubt Favourlight would publish those specs. I am guessing the seller or his dealer is monkeying around...

I noticed that Favourlight has updated its spec on previous so-called "400 lumen" 6xD lights to 300 lumen output despite the photo on the same page still shows a printing of 400lumen on the lantern itself

The light was posted here 6 months ago http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb...-LED-lantern&p=3610823&viewfull=1#post3610823

Not sure if they changed the driver for longer burn time, or they did some serious measurement and decided to publish genuine output rather than just take the LED theoretical lumens and multiply them.

(The famous 3xD 300lumen version aka Rayovac was also changed to 230 lumen)

I think this "500 lumen" is a clone of the famous Favourlight aka Rayovac Extreme. I found another one here with a more realistic tag of A$ 44.95 and boasting a "Cree Q5". The reason why I think it's a clone is the same store carries the real Favourlight at A$ 79.99. A difference can be spotted on the photo is the unrubberised area on top of the Favourlight is square while the clone is round
