A quick update to let everyone know things are still definitely cooking on the Core Ti front.

Im currently waiting on the new proto's to be completed, expected sometime next week.
We had to make a new mold to handle the angled hole and some other minor adjustments.

Probably one of each using 3mm led and flattened 5mm led, and then compare the difference.
My guess is that the 3mm will be a better fit in terms of beam shape, and overall design but we shall see...

Thanks for being so transparent and keeping us updated on this project. It's both fun and educational... and it makes me (us?) more likely to give you our monies!

    applevision,
    pleasure is mine

Workshop says the proto's should be ready to send out monday.
These ones are supposed to have blank buttons (no MBI).

They usually send me photo's before sending them so I will post if that happens,
and then once they are here, I will send out a subscriber update with ALL the tiniest details.

New proto's are on the way....

In the meantime, here is a comparison of the 2mm led vs 3mm led version (both using 2xCR2012).

    Can you notice any difference?

Really looking forward to seeing these first hand!

Is the 3mm LED as warm as it looks in the photo?

    Hi JJ,
I'll be happy to tell you, soon as its here
Sure looks to be warmer than the 2mm (which was on the high-white side of the scale like the Fenix E01).

The 2mm is just a rough proto though, and was more to check fit & size than anything else,
but that 3mm is looking very good.

I can't believe how much wider that beam is too, especially at that distance. Should be a great light for searching
through the garage or basement, and having one around your neck will preclude anyone being able to turn the lights off on you!

Love to see the output on that 3mm with the single cell driving it. (This is a good thread for popcorn...)

A bit'o'luck, and you'll get to see this one first hand later in the week!

tgwnn, do you have an estimate for the lumen output from the 3mm led please?
Presumably this is a direct-drive light and the output will drop gradually?

    Hi easilyled,

A very rough guestimate at this stage would be somewhere between 5-10 lumens (based on my testing of the flat 2mm led),
but I can let you know soon and do some comparison beam shots with a Fenix E01, AAA MiniMag, Innova Micro, Streamlight Nano, etc...
later on in the week once it arrives.

Oh and yes, its direct-drive. Makes it more washing machine proof (just hang it out to dry).

p.s. Totally loving the proto I've been wearing
p.p.s. The few gal's I've shown this to were 1) surprised that its a flashlight and 2) asked where I bought it

I can't say that I'm too surprised. They should make great gifts.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

    Hopefully so

btw, the proto's on route have blank buttons.
Also have gotten requests for Core's with "their" name on it.
I can see that being a popular choice too.

My heart stopped for a minute, as I got the impression it was 100 lumens or so... Nice beam profile!

So is the 2mm LED just really weak or is the 3mm LED really bright? The 3mm LED seems really floody. In light that can only output ~10 lumens, if its too floody... it won't look as bright. On the upside, I'm not seeing too many artefacts in the beam, particularly the 3mm LED. So thumbs up for that!

    hazna, welcome back

The 2mm is relatively weak but from memory, it was not that much weaker than the innova microlight (rated at 6lumens).
The full story coming this weekend (as long as the proto's arrive before then).

    Thanks,

    Almost....
The new Core Ti proto's are almost here (according to tracking no. and after some strange transport delay).
They should arrive tomorrow at latest.

    Expected Updates:
    angled necklace hole
    battery type (CR20XX)
    led (new 2mm,3mm versions)
    size (+ 2~3mm longer/wider)
fingernail slots at bottom (to make opening easier)
    blank button

Planning to take some beamshot comparison's (Fenix E01, Mag Solitaire, etc..) and send out a mail update to the list with updated photos, all going well tomorrow night.

I will post as soon as I have them in hand!

    Thanks,
    tgwnn

    Thanks sledhead,
very kind of you to say

I think the thing that makes it great though is the involvement from everybody here.

Once the products are finally done, I think it will be fun (at least for me) to read through the whole thread again from start to finish with product in hand. I don't think I imagined it would take so much work to make what seems to be even a simple product but it has and continues to be a very enjoyable experience thanks to all the support from people such as yourself.

    A couple of quick photos.....

1st up, the new proto (v2) on the left (blank with nothing inside), and v1 on the right

Next up, Mag Solitaire (left) vs Core Ti v2 (right)

and the last one, v2 Core Ti, with chain (& reflection)

    tgwnn

p.s. The v2 proto was made using SS (for speed) which is why the finish is so mirror-like.

The SS looks pretty nice, although perhaps heavy. I can't wait to see the stone washed Ti!
