I did some research and couldn't find much info about these lights. They run on Ni-Cads and are cheaper than most of the lights we have here. 90-Year Warranty, Local after sales.

Shenanigans? Sorry Norm, the bold claim was too unbelievable to pass up not posting it here for the other CPF'ers.

Road out...

If that was real I'd buy one. But it probably just means that it is visible from 2km away if someone is shining it at you

Thoughts:

* First of all, their warranty claims sound laughable, and uhh... bulb? I thought we were talking about an LED torch? And what companies are they comparing theirs to?
* No specs on power source or LED type makes me skeptical.
* Judging by its size (if that pic is an accurate representation) 2 km off a reflector that size? Maybe if you're looking directly at it from 2 km away as JacobJones said.
* Local service support in your home country with no added qualifiers to that statement. Great, so I presume you have service centres in Tajikistan, Nigeria and Tonga?

This must be that company who's uncle was a Nigerian prince and died and had some money he had to do something with?

2,000 meter = 1,000,000 lux @ 1 meter

XR-E R2 EZ900 @ 1.2 A with SMO reflector 50 - 63 mm = 50,000 - 80,000 lux
XR-E R2 EZ900 @ 1.2 A with 66 mm Aspherical lens = 150,000 lux

I remember some light's use to label the package as one mile visibility or something similar which meant the light could be seen from one mile away and not shoot the beam one mile, maybe they are working off something similar here.

If you can see the beam at one mile then indeed the beam is travelling one mile, but I understand what you getting at :)

sure sounds like you will be able to see someone using it from 2kms away, but the beam's throw will not reach that far. Besides in real world applications, would you really use that light for your Barrett .50 cal sniper rifle to take out targets at night? the beam alone will call out your position and soon counter sniper fire will come raining down on you. haha....

Just checking my math... isn't 2,000 meter throw 1.5 million lux @ 1 meter? I guess I was thinking the 1 lumen per 1 square meter definition though...

Inova packaging always had something like "throw a beam for 200 meters - can be seen for up to 3 miles". A great example are those cheap bicycle headlights. 15 lumens is helpful in complete darkness for being seen but doesn't really do much for seeing (though of course it is better than nothing!)
