Hmmmm, thats a toughy.

For the price, I like:

PT Tec40: Super Bright, nice beam.
SL PP 4AA 7 led. Wide even flood of light, good runtime.

I gotta agree Doug. I think you'd have to beat me to death to get my LSH-P away from me. I love that little light! Got it for a rediculously low price back before the MAP rule went into effect. The AA ain't too shabby either.

Streamlight Twin Task 3C.
You get a great around the house flashlight for $30.00.
Not an EDC light, but darn nice.

Surefire E1. It's bright enough I could use it as my only flashlight if necessary, but easily fits in a pocket.

I think one of the best buys out there at this point--if it's what you need--is the new SL TL-3.

I am blown away for any money with the SF L4.

The Arc AAA LE is also a great value for what you get.

The SF G2 is also a great value.

Cheers,

Richard

Underwater Kinetics 2AAA Pocket Light,
It is small, water-proof and can take a lot of hits without damage. It will run a long time on 2AAA batteries and for $10, a great deal. Here is the link:
http://www.countycomm.com/uklight.htm
I don't have one at this moment But it looks like I will be "heading across the pond" again in mid-March. Time to see how lights work were there is no light. My plan is to get a few of those, the shortwave radio and a few other things at once. Those UK lights are to lend to other people so I can keep the LS lights for myself!
If Wally World ever gets them back in, you can't beat the Dorcy AAA light. Can't wait to get a few of those for mods.
Raggie, thanks for a great thread... we all tend to hit the triple digits at times for flashlights. It is good to see if we have any homeruns from the cheap seats.

Ditto on the UKE 2AAA, altho mine's the xenon version but its still pretty good bang for buck!

Next one for me would be the CMG Ultra G for $18 from Countycomm as well... Altho light output is similar to the Arc AAA, but for the price and runtime, this is a great buy!

Love those $1 pocket lights too! Anyone and everyone I've given them to so far have been nothing but delighted at the little things!!

For short range, the Dorcy AAA. For long range, The Flashlight Bargain of the Century! -- basic soldering skills required, but only a few minutes time and $5.79 in parts.

I'm always looking for the best bang-for-the-buck, and right now I like my $30 Elektro-Lumens 3AA Illuma-Lux. One of these days I'm going to get my hands on one of the Streamlight 3AA Luxeons to see how it compares. See my sig at the bottom for other good, economical flashlights (many of which have already been mentioned).

I guess I have had so many lights I was never happy with that the "for the price" part of the equation is hard to factor in now. I will save for what I really want, instead of buying a whole bunch of cheaper lights. And I really love the L4 and TW4 best of all my lights right now. (open to change when the L5 and L6 arrive... we'll see.)

I guess if I needed a cheaper light right now, and did not have that kind of money saved up, I would go for the Surefire G2, an awesome light for the price, or the Photon II Microlite, depending on how I was going to use the light. If it was not for EDC, I would think about others.

I EDC and use a Dorcy 3LED 1AA. I EDC an Arc AAA Std. on my keychain but don't use it much, preferring the Dorcy's tail cap switch.

I consider the Dorcy AAA to be the best bang for the buck out there.

PhotonBoy, where'd you get a Dorcy 3LED 1AA?

RonM: "PhotonBoy, where'd you get a Dorcy 3LED 1AA?"

Home Hardware (they're a national chain, similar to Canadian Tire, but without the tires) in Berwick, Nova Scotia. I got it on sale for C$15.97, usually C$19.95.

They also had the Dorcy 4LED 2AA lights, but they're not nearly as pocketable as the 3LED 1AA.

My fav will most likely be the arc lsh-p modded with r-bin luxeon, fraen lp optics, and biased to 700mA, which i am about to get modded. Just the thought of it makes me salivate...

Pelican M6-incandescent
Princeton-Tec Aurora-headlamp
Arc AAA-pocket LED
(my jury's still out on the belt carry-sized LED), but it will probably be the new Pelican M6 1 watt LED)
