This forum is hazardous for my bank account. I saw the thread title and had to look around. Now I am hooked on getting the Jetbeam RRT-0. What an awesome piece of kit! I wanted to get a nice AA cell torch that I could hang off my belt in the office. Looks like I've found it.

Sounds like you may want to check out the Nitecore clip, too, if you get the R5/S2 version of the RRT-0 .... It fits the JETBeam, is made of titanium, and may be rather more secure than the stock clip -

I am running it off a 14500. The output is ABSURD. If I had to guess I would put it at around 400 lumens, with some throw out of a body a little bigger than a Chapstick. I work at a college and we have a baseball field obviously. I was using it the other night and I was lighting trees up on the other side of the field. Google maps lists it as around 535 feet. The output is really awsome. Comparable, dare I say, to my Malkoff M91W. Its an impressive tiny format. And here is a pic.

Also running this wicked setup. Only difference is I have a deep carry pocket clip. LOVE IT.

I've been EDCing a Nitecore D11.2 with an aftermarket titanium pocket clip for a few months and love it.

Doing my research as this would be my first entry into Li-ions.

    Question for you 14500/XM-L users....

    1) will the max output exceed the stated 280 lumens of the AA^2?... I understand all other modes will be the same between AA/AA^2/14500.
    2) has anyone ever tripped their Li-ion protection circuit on moonlight or low mode? I've read speculation that the super lower draw of moonlight may not be enough to trip the voltage protection circuit on 14500s allowing the batt to fall below critical voltage, which I understand kills the cell and makes it dangerous to ever recharge again. I'm concerned as I use moonlight and low *a lot*. Read about HERE.

I think the Sunwayman V10A is an impressive AA light. A superb combination of throw and flood. With a 14500, it's output is impressive, even with the XP-G version I have. The dynamic range of output available and the perfect UI make it a gem My only criticism would be that it is unnecessarily chunky in the main body for simply an AA. You would almost think you should be able to get an 18650 in there. If they slimmed down the main body and made it significantly lighter for those mouth-hold moments, it would be perfection.

Another very impressive AA light, I think, is the Xeno E03 XM-L. With a 14500 it will put out 510 lumens according to Selfbuilt's review: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/...IMES-BEAMSHOTS

For the money, it is simply outstanding value. I have a friend who is an electrician. He mislaid/lost the light he uses on the job the most, so I got him an EO3 and some 14500s. He is over the moon with it. On high he says it simply floods lofts so he can check the layout and do an initial recce before proceeding. I got him one in red so it is easier to spot and not leave behind when tidying up after a job.

I like the Quark AA mini, but I think it is a bit expensive for what it is - which doesn't detract from the fact it is probably a classic.

Just ordered the Jetbeam this weekend. Hey archimedes, could you PM me a hot link to the Nitecore clip you mentioned on your post? I hope torch works out better than my last purchase (totally different topic so I won't get into it).

I got the Jetbeam RRT-0 today. Popped in a CR123 I've been using it tonight. It has a bright beam with the CR123 and my understanding is that highest lumens potential is with RCR123 cells which I have coming in. Got the belt holster and it looks great. I didn't try out the AA cell extension yet. This is a nice setup.

For me the best 1AA are any of the Zebralights. Nice UI, versitle and great runtime/lumen output.

I trip the voltage protection circuits on my Li-Ion batteries on a regular basis. I have batteries that are 4 years old or more and they still work fine. The electronics necessary to make effective voltage protection circuits, and sensitive chargers that don't try to charge damaged cells, has existed for years; don't buy cheap stuff and you won't have to worry.

The scenario you're worried about is impossible. If the voltage protection circuit is set to disconnect at 2.75V, then it will disconnect at 2.75V -- it may disconnect sooner if a heavy load is causing the battery's voltage to droop, and likewise it may disconnect later if a very light load isn't causing any voltage droop, but it will still disconnect at 2.75V. It will not magically allow the battery to drain below the specified voltage without disconnecting.

All the stories I've read where people have had cells blow up have been no-name cells, unprotected cells, or lights that put a super-high load on the cells.

^^ Thanks, that's what would made sense to me. I have protected AWs coming in so I think I'll be covered.

    1) I don't think the output is higher. My Quark X AA2 looks to have the same output as my Quark AA with the XML head on it runnin a 14500.

    2) I have also tripped my AW cells on the lower modes with no ill effects. Some of my cells are 4+ years old & still working just fine.

My favorite 1xAA light is the Quark AA with the Neutral XML head on it using a 14500 Li-ion. I prefer the Regular UI so all of the output levels are readily available. I got the deep carry pocket clip & a forward clicky for it from 4sevens and have edc'd this light for 1.5 years.

    +1
I have the neutral X head.
A bit big for pocket carry if you have tight jeans. I carry mine in a cell phone pouch with 2 spare batteries in a DX 2AA battery case.
My Quark MiNi AA neutral resides in my pocket.

Is there any single AA light currently made in 6/4?
