Passed away today at 66 of a heart attack. Another icon of my youth gone. :sigh:

The Monkees was a band that was created for TV in the 60s. The idea for the series was inspired by the Beatles film A Hard Day's Night. You could see this inspiration in all of their episodes.

RIP and thanks for all the music.

I was sad to hear this news today... :( Yes, I was one of those teenage girls who had pin-ups of Davy all over my bedroom walls... :) Funny but my husband was just playing the Best of the Monkees cd last weekend and we were happily singing along and remembering back when those songs came out and watching the TV show on Saturday mornings... yeah... :sigh:

I was born in '66, but I do remember watching their show on TV. Can't say I was ever a fan of their music, but they were entertaining none the less.

"Once you're in, you're in. It's like the Mafia, once a Monkee, always a Monkee"...........Davy Jones

Here's a video clip of Davy auditioning for the TV series at age 19.
