Note: The KL4 head is identical to the one on the L4 and was designed for 2 CR123's @ 6V. These pics were taken on a single RCR123 3V (closer to 4V really) so check out the pics for the L4 to get an idea of what the beam of this head would look like w/2 cells).

Note: I didn't capture Blue and Red as it would've req'd different exposure values.

XENO S3A and revised G10v2 (more accurate color) shots now up. Also as part of a new procedure going forward, I will be adding one large ceiling bounce shot on Max for each light to allow better comparisons of total output.

I only have it for these two lights for now but will add the others over time.
Cheers,
Tim

Turbo,
Thanks for the shots, most helpful!
A question re: Surefire L1, if I may. I notice the spill has a blue tint & the hot spot seems quite white. Is this how you see it by eye? If you run it on a regular 123 does the hot spot appear blue?
I ask because I've tried two L1's and both appeared quite blue on regular 123's and wondered if the rcr's extra voltage made it not only brighter but also helped "whiten" the hot spot. These were both the latest iteration w/cree emitters.

The E2DL shots are dead riingers of my sample so I assume what I'm seeing is relatively accurate.

Any input would be helpful!
Thanks.

Thx! For all the beamshots against the door, I manually adjust the WB to the best of my ability. Although I've noticed they tend to have a slight overshift in magenta (especially the older shots when I was still getting familiar with the camera), overall they are fairly representative of what my eyes see. The bounce shots however are usually set to AWB or whichever WB last used against the door so those won't be as accurate.

As for the L1, yes, there is a very light hint of blue but certainly nothing ghastly. I just checked w/a LiFePO4 that has been sitting around for a while (3.27V) and it's about the same as with a freshly charged RCR16340 @ 4.19v.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the quick reply.
"Ghastly" would be apropos for the two L1's I checked out, I think they're beyond the help of a voltage boost! Very Helpful!
Thanks again!

Wait, now you just jogged my memory. I actually returned a L1 to SF because the tint was actually pretty darn green. They initially pushed back but when I sent comparo pics vs. other SF lights they finally agreed to fix it (L1 always on the right in these shots):

vs. E2DL

vs. KL4

vs. L4

vs. U2 (SSC P4):

However, to keep things in perspective, only the E2DL is an apples-to-apples comparo since it's XR-E to XR-E wheras the others all use the SSC P4 which is known to have a purplish/white tint. I must say I don't think I've encountered any overly blue XR-E's, most have been on the greenish side.

Cheers,
Tim

Turbo,
Compared to what I saw, I'd take that in a heartbeat!

TN31 pics retaken for better comparo w/L3 K40, also new measurements acquired (green cells).

Cheers,
Tim
