My question is; how does the quality hold up on Balder lights? Can you compare them with SureFire, Fenix lights, or more with Solarforce and XX-Fire lights?

I own two Balders: BD-2 and SE-1. I would rate the quality on the BD-2 as up there with Solarforce, a little below Fenix and way above XXXFires - it is one of my favorit lights from a design standpoint and performance is flawless. I was not so impressed with the SE-1. This looks like a very nice light and it's quite a bit cheaper than the BD-2.

I did a review of the BD-4. I agree, the quality is maybe a bit below Fenix. They really did a great job, made a lot of good decisions on the construction. I too would like to see them do well.

You can get to the review I did of the BD-4 through my sig line.

I know we can't discuss specific pricing or where to buy here but what price point are these selling at? If the build quality is at or slightly below Fenix are the prices at or below Fenix's for similar lights?

As far as I know, Fenix doesn't really have any lights quite like these. The SE-2 is similar in size/form to any P-60 size light and is a poor man's BD-2 without some of the latter's design bling. SE-2 can be found in the mid-$30's (U.S.) with a little research on the web. Fenix lights (I have one and love it) are quite a bit more pricey.

Just wondering if anyone has picked up the SE-2 and if so your impressions? I have been thinking about picking one or two up. They seem to hit the bang for the buck target but I am wondering about durability and real world performance. At this price point they seem like a heck of a bargain.

Quality on my BD-2 is great and it is a nice looking light to boot. I agree the SE-2 looks light a bargain. I have so many lights this size I can't justify it or I'd pick one up.

I picked one up recently and have been favorably impressed thus far. It appears to be well made, has a basic, easy to use interface and is very bright. I haven't had a chance to use it extensively yet but unless it has some hidden problems, for around $35, it represents a very good value for a light with an XML which uses 18650's.
