Default started a tactical knife what do you think?

just a quick few pics of a
    'roughed out ' blade
I started a few days ago

bear in mind it is the first roughed out shaping
still needs proper grinding heat treatment
    and fitting and finishing

its actually a long way to go before completion

    I quite like it
fits in the hand real nice

    its 1/4" thick 440c
    nice carbonfibre
(only the best from blacksite carbonfibre)

thinking of checkering on the verticals of the finger grooves and where the thumb rests

feels like it could go through a brickwall

    cheers for looking Jason

    What makes this knife "tactical"?

The term 'tactical' means different things to different people.

Is this a combat knife ? combat knife is an orginal military weapon that does
the job of killing enemies or survival duties when handled correctly, and there
are hundreds of knife designs that can do that job.

holding this knife in the hand gives a feel that it could be used in a tactile way
    eg combat

1/4" thick "feels like it could go through a brickwall "

it wouldn't really look right sitting on a plate with some cheese and biscuits

    gollum,

I recently ventured into this section of the boards. The flashlight sections have been keeping me busy and I haven't strayed to far

After viewing several of your posts I must say you have the ability to create some great stuff! Tanto knives have always been a favorite of mine. You have executed this classic very well with the curved staggered handle. Looks like it fits well in the hand.

What type of steel are you using for the blade? Also what material is the handle?

I like the Omega Seamaster on your wrist

its 1/4" thick 440c... thats surgical steel
it was the foremost blade steel for many years and is still one of the best
    carbonfibre
(only the best from blacksite carbonfibre)
this maker of carbon fibre has the best quality
he cooks it in an autoclave for 6 months
uses it for jet turbine blades check is website
this was a new pattern he created

thanks for you comments on my design
I do like the tanto style but havent done many recently
it fits in my med sized hand really well

    oh yes the omega
had to go for the new Co-Axial movement when it was released
my old original seamaster was just about worn out after 13 years of wear and tear

    cheers Jason

    If that purpose is selling...

Very pretty knife. Looks wicked, and I can't wait to see it finished.

    Jason,

Excellent blade geometry! I like the sharp point on the end of the knife as well. That could be used for strikes, break glass etc. Nice touch. I look forward to the finish piece.

Superb taste in watches as well. My black face Omega co-axial Seamaster is on my wrist right now

not sure where your located but this knife isn't illegal to own anywhere in Oz.

theres still a lot of debate on Melbourne and Sydney cbd knife bans, but they just had the annual knife show in melb.

Oh sorry I'm in Victoria's Sunraysia region, I wasn't implying it would be illegal to own, just carry (and use like any other EDC item) without meeting the extreme criteria for example a necessary work item whilst on the job (ie. butcher/carpet layer/cable installer)

I remember the days when I owned and carried a pen knife (and later a balisong) without issue, handy for building cubby houses and bush craft when I was a kid roaming the Victorian countryside

yes its a shame we are policed to the current ridiculous standards
I remember when every man had a pocket knife in his pocket
I always carry a small keychain knife which I constantly use and usually another
I am always careful when in public but I don't think we are quite at "tase him now" status just yet
we all had knives when we set off for a days adventure as kids, how else can a kid make bows and arrows, cut sugar cane and peel mangoes,
digging holes and carving our names in trees...ahh the good old days

    Nice work thus far!
I'm not normally a fan of tantos, but the overall angularity makes it work well. Wicked point too.
Looks like it would be well suited to inside the waistband CC.
440C is a classic and well suited for a knife that may be carried where it gets sweaty.

I like it. It would take very well to a sheath with the narrow section near the shoulder.

I totally agree with your views there Admiralgrey...440c is very under rated
gglockner, yes I will make a nice kydex sheath for it ,I also have some camo material I may use.

thanks for looking ,I will get back to this soon as it is on my to-do list.
