I've been looking at this forum a bit, so I thought I should sign up and make a post.
My birthday is coming up in the not-too-distant future, and I think I'd like a flashlight. It will be used for pretty much everything, but I also do some camping, so I guess that's the main thing that's relevant.
I am under no illusions that part of the reason I want one is for gimmick value :D
I've always been a gadget person, and I love electronic stuff.
The more buttons, switches, knobs, indicators, etc. the better!
My requirements are pretty simple - has to be reasonable bright, reasonably small, and have adjustable brightness.
I'm not really sure about the batteries... I'm thinking AA batteries sound good (Eneloops), but I'd be open to other suggestions, given I've seen that CR123 batteries can have twice the brightness, etc.
Perhaps something along the lines of the Jetbeam RRT0 XML - I really like the fact that the brightness is highly adjustable, but I'm not sure about the fact that it can hold only a single AA battery (or a CR123).
Strobe - don't really care if it has strobe or not, but if it does, it has to be activated in such a way that it won't ever get in the way of normal use, as I doubt I'll ever use this function.
Battery indicator would be great!
Budget isn't really a problem, I just want a flashlight that is very cool ;)
Really, I'm just trying to figure out what I want, but I don't have enough information to make a good decision - but you do! :D
Please tell me your thoughts and let me know what you think!
Also, which brands should I limit my choice to (or are there any I should AVOID)?
Oh, and I also forgot to mention that it'd be nice to have a focus selector (throw/flood, I think it's called?)
I'm a guy who likes doing his research before making a purchase, and I've got quite a while to make a decision :)

I started a thread looking for a "fun" light for < $100 not long ago here, and there were some very good suggestions there. Might be worth a look.
A lot of the zoom (flood-to-throw) lights are considered to be cheaper lights. I've had a lot of good luck with the Sipik SK68 as a zoom light, but it only has 1 output level. I haven't tried it with a 14500 battery, but I heard it's pretty fun with one. I've only used lithium AA primaries. Good one to play with for about $10 though.
