Jay, that looks nice indeed. What other colours are options?

petrev, that 4000 lumen solar thingummy looks insane! - five emitters with the same number of cells as the Skyking and purports double the output. Sheesh. I'm not sure my eyes are dim enough to warrant the extra power. Nice handle though - strikes me it could double up as a convenient belt clip for resting the light when you need both hands - not secure though.

If only I liked bright torches...

Some only have 1.2A per LED, so won't be brighter than the King. But I'm sure Petrev can fix that with a little work.

10v-120v goes through gold, brown, purple, blue, yellow, orange, red, green, grey. Stick " titanium anodizing colour chart" into google picture search to see. Got to get some more 9v batteries now...

    Methinks you are right . . .

    Just arrived !

    Bottom line SkyKing(3) 3.2KLux vs SolarStorm(5) 2.9KLux

so not running optimally I guess.

    PICS

Hah - See what I did there ??? Same threads !!!!

    Same factory ?

Like the SkyKing-Storm with the Lock-Out TailSwitch

    5x XM-L in parallel @ 3V

    4.5 A = 0.9A per LED

Nicely made and LEDs running well within themselves !

So E-Man ???? How do we pimp it ?

    Pete

ps. I like them both - The SolarStorm could do without the Strobe and SOS ! The SkyRay has the edge on manufacturing quality though the Matt Grey anodising on the SolarStorm is really nice.

Is that the heatsink you've pulled up with the emitters on topside in the last pics??

IMHO the voltage range required to hit those colours is very much dependant on your chemistry and is different for different chunks of Ti ...there isn't really a red. If you find it let me know 'cos I can't get it !! after yellow you tend to get pink then magenta then into the greens...

If it were me I wouldn't put much more current into those LEDs with such a small amount of heatsinking.

Is there any room to make a thicker copper heatsink. I too would not drive the LED's much harder, unless you plan on using it for short bursts.

    Hi

Probably best not to drive any higher.
The HS transfers heat to the head around the edge - I added a bit more silicon to complete the ring, but . . ..

In use both look about the same in brightness and beam.

The SkyRay King doesn't have the flashing modes and it is cheaper by about £12.

The SolarStorm has a really nice feel to the dark grey anodising. The handle ? Love it or hate it - or remove it !

Overall - I like them both - If I could only have one the SkyRay King might win just because it is cheaper and very slightly brighter, though you would only know side by side, or on a meter. The dark grey anodising is really nice though . . . ???????

Based upon my past experiences from HK Equipment to UK. It takes around 10-14 days.

Am I the only person at the last meet who doesn't want one of these.

They were, indeed, lovely. But I just have a bit of a fear of four 18650's in a light. Maybe I'm being irrational!

Also, I appear to be lumened out. Brighter is not the attraction it once was. I've returned to my first loves of throw and colours. Oh to have a 200 yard thrower with variable colour output and very narrow beam.

Have fun with your lights, everyone. I look forward to lining all the Skyrays up on the pub table at the next meet!

So, what you're saying is I shouldn't worry about four 18650's and get with the program???

With my reputation for handling high output torches??

    At this hour?

I just told my wife that I was thinking of getting one of these lights as everyone was so impressed by them at the meet and now lots of us are buying them.

She laughed (with mirth) and left the room shouting out behind her: "Sucker!!!"

At least that's what I think she said.

    Considering the Skyray!

My wife scoffed at my lights and questioned why I put one on her keyring until all the lights failed in the windowless maternity ward. She hasn’t given me grief about them since... ( Well, not much.)

Yes, Jay. They always scoff until they need a light.

OK - so having four 18650's in parallel also means there's no chance of reverse charging?

    Mmmmmm....

It was a very nice pretty gold light...

Unquestionably it would make a lovely bike front light...

    Oh, bugger!

Having 4 x 18650 is strangely safer than running it with 3.

My girlfriend rolled her eyes when I told her about the amazing Skyray King that impressed us at the meet. My Eagletac D25C and D25LC2 S2 clickys arrived the same day as the Skyray

Just a thought Tulleys Farm, West Sussex,

Imagine, an 8 acre maize field in the dark, being totally lost and just having your friends for company. This is an experience you really shouldn't miss!

    • Choose from nine dates in 2012

    • Once the light disappears, grab your torch and let the adventure begin
    • Discover a truly enlightening experience and 'LIGHT SHOW' you create.

Unlike our Halloween evening maze, no actors are in the mazes. It’s all down to your imagination.
Nine Torch Light Maze dates in 2012

Looks great. The only one of those I could possibly do would be the last one, 8th September, but don't let me choose the date!
